However, the cause of this plague of assassins was discovered - and the finals waves stopped - by a mysterious group of people, aides to the delegations, passengers who won tickets by lottery, and airship staff - who used mysterious technologies, some seeming to be magic; who could appear and disappear at will and who could communicate instantaneously, presumably by means of concealed radios. They all vanished from aboard before the Zeitgeist came back to dock. Certain things they said made it sound as if they came from another world... including their utter and universal ignorance of history, geography, and current events.
All of you who witnessed invaders from another world have stayed in contact and been looking for them all year; asking suspicious strangers nonsense questions (what they think of the Emperor’s heir (he doesn’t have one), if they heard about the Tunguskan ambassador’s ball (ha ha ha right), how long they think the Carthaginian Peace Accords will last (pigs will fly first)), and so on.

...can Ambrus give out invitations to the ~Tunguskan Amabssador's Ball~ and we end up with a wacky confrontation and shenanigans?

At least the long-explanation folks, but you can bring in whoever you like.
And that sounds amazing, just let me know when you want to hold the ball, :-p

He'll be infiltrating as a pirate / bounty hunter type dude who has ~contacts, so anything that someone in that line of work would know is what I'm interested in!

They'd be recognizable.

He'd know there were assassins ans strange foreigners on the voyage, but other rumors wouldn't have made it this far - unless his dad specifically told him more

So this is what I've set up for Grisha/The Wolf:
-mostly based out of Nova Venezia in the last decade
-heads a spy network there that potentially extends much farther (this being Wolves' Children he's personally broken out of the colony primarily, but he'd have some contacts other places, especially in Chakravartin Raj)
-very long term (we're talking 2 decades plus) involvement with Wolves' Children and the penal colony, along with many visits (although, I have no idea how much contact/coordination different groups have)
-his only "loyalties" besides the kids who he's personally taken in is the Wolves' Children and Monomotapa, and the last is the lesser of the two, really
So I'm not sure how deeply involved he would have been (if directly involved at all), but what he knows (or doesn't) would drastically change his response to the question, so, modly ideas/guidance?

He'd know ALL about the assassination plot, but probably be baffled as to the identity of the people who thwarted it. Up to you if he was involved in plotting the mission or not.

... Though being a Cryptocatholic agent himself, I assume he'd have access to at least some portions of the Vatican library. It's very possible the rumours could have made him curious enough to look things up in the archives, if he was allowed. And presuming he could slip out of the city briefly.

The Catholic records will record everything about the Zeitgeist's voyage, but won't have taken the paranoid theory of otherworldly intruders seriously.
