As well as qualifying to win one of the category awards, yours will be ranked by the Judges (i.e. Amelia and two NPCs) against the other two champions. These rankings and next week's rankings will determine the starting times for the final event of the tourney.

Artwork: A poem his sister wrote, because he Gives No Fucks and she deserves to be honored here somehow.

Meaning/Interpretation: He didn't even write it, so it says he's not trying on this event. On the other hand, his sister wrote it, which says he's still grieving pretty heavily.
Magical Effects: You know those daily aches and pains that you tend to just ignore? This soothes them, if done correctly.
Quality: Somewhere between Decent and Good. He can't take any credit for writing the thing and his delivery makes it clear he's phoning this in, but it's not badly executed all the same.
How About That Cranky Judge: ...Well, it'd be difficult for her to make him less motivated, let's be real, but given that this is his sister's work Amelia would probably just piss him off. That said, being a Plot Role, cranky judge commentary seems likely and I'm okay with playing it out if PG is.

That Phillip likes being dramaticThat Phillip might as well be PuckThere's no real meaning in particular; Michaelanglo house represeeeeent.Magical Effects: Phillip manages to play several 'characters' and successfully manages to 'disguise' himself as each one during their lines. It's more than just good acting, even though he 'looks' the same he 'appears' different and is very difficult to recognize as himself.
Quality: Exceptional

Meaning/Interpretation: Pretty much nothing, let's be real
Magical Effects: He's going to be attempting something like a firebending with this, where his more flashy moves makes sparks and waves of flame. nothing BIG, but, you know. showy.
Quality: ehn, he's okay? It's not his focus, but he's not entirely shit, and he's clearly been trained in some kind of martial arts in the past, so at least there's that.
How About That Cranky Judge: oh, please. please let us make this happen. this is his 'calling it in' round, and he was planning on just having fun out there, so if she wants to ruin his night, then let's.

Artwork: The first forty-five lines of Act Two, Scene One of A Midsummer Night's Dream, from 'How now, spirit? Whither wander you?' to 'And here my mistress. Would that he were gone!'

Meaning/Interpretation: Honestly, the Dream's mostly just her favorite Shakespeare play and she'd already had this passage memorized long before the Tourney.
Magical Effects: Gives the impression of being two different people
but not nearly as well as Phillip's performance does.Quality: Fairly decent? But with Phillip doing basically the same thing only way better earlier on, it looks a little pathetic next to his.
How About That Cranky Judge: Actually, though she can be sarcastic about Charley doing basically the same thing Phillip did only less good, she should really save her nastiness for Charley's second entry...

So that's what Charley's told everyone that she's planned to do for the performance half of the competition. But she's also secretly registered to do a second performance... for a very special reason.
Artwork: An impassioned rendition of Pat Benetar's 'Shadows of the Night'
Category: Song
Meaning/Interpretation: So. Uh. She's singing this specifically for one person in the audience: Alair. This is kinda sorta an 'I really like you in a romantic way' declaration. /facepalms
Magical Effects: Your bog-standard making background music where there was none! That is to say, she's technically singing it a capella, but using performance magic to fill in the instrumental parts.
Quality: Hovering somewhere around the decent to good border? She has a nice, strong voice with the right range for the song... but she's singing someone else's song. Oops.
How About That Cranky Judge: Sure. I mean, what she's doing is basically glorified karaoke and she doesn't even have Naoki's excuse of his sister writing it. But I gotta warn you: she will cry for realsies.

Student Specialties: She doesn't have one yet, but if she develops one, it'll probably be dance.
Artwork: A short dance that combines kung-fu moves with actual dance steps.
Category: Dance
Meaning/Interpretation: It seems to be telling a story of Chie fighting uneven odds and ends ambiguously, so it's hard to tell if she triumphed over her imaginary enemies or not.
Magical Effects: There's sort of ghostly after-images of the opponents she's fighting in her dance, the kind that would be real illusions if she got better at performance magic.
Quality: Fairly decent! She's an amateur, but there's some real talent there that needs refining.
How About That Cranky Judge: Nah. I've already got one person getting maybe yelled at by the Cranky Judge.

Student Specialties: Performance poetry, yes this is his speciality.
Artwork: A long, avant garde, extremely pretentious, spoken poem.
Category: Poetry
Meaning/Interpretation: It's a morality tale about reading a book by it's cover. VERY SUBTLE. (it's not that subtle. It at least doesn't directly reference his situation, and takes the normal route of comparing outwardly beautiful and outwardly ugly people, but his situation is too obvious to hide).
Magical Effects: At first it seems that the magical effects are just to add dramatic effect to the story. Rain when rain is appropriate, flashes of fire, darkness to heighten the mood, etc. But as the poem goes on, underlying, there's also an emotional effect of the viewer: Leo is using magic to effect the mood of those watching. He doesn't have a full range of emotions, so it's essentially just joy/sadness, anger/calm (plus a very slight attempt at envy that he can't really get his head round, never having been envious himself), and obviously if people are warded he won't always be able to get it through there, but it's subtle, and the effect is good.
Quality: Top of his game; very good. He's been working on this since before he knew he was going to be a champion, and honestly has probably put more effort in than he will for his final exams (since he knows he can get away without them, but he's only going to have one shot at this). He's not prodigy level, but he's definitely towards the upper level of his age group.
How About That Cranky Judge: Hell yes! Make him doubt everything, he'll mope like only a teenage boy knows how.

Artwork: a fireworks show

Meaning/Interpretation: North America is more than just Texas, there's natural wonders across the entire place
Magical Effects: actual depictions of landscapes/natural landmarks/animals made of fireworks. Highlights include: Niagara Falls, a pine forest (deer, wolves), two moose fighting, a herd of wild horses, etc.
The finale involves an eagle soaring away.
Some of the landscapes successfully change from the sound of fireworks to something matching the scene (falling water, wind in trees, animal movement) but it is not always successful. Some of the landscapes also don't work correctly, but are still pretty fireworks.
Quality: Exceptional- Good?

Student Specialties: Photography, but he's branching waaay out for this

Meaning/Interpretation: It's mostly meant to be entertaining and fun. He's only been dancing since the beginning of the year but for reasons known only to him, he's been working really hard and being tutored extra by Professor Llewellyn.
Magical Effects: as a primarily visual person, he adds a bit of special effects, trailing light from his arms as he goes and attempting to have illusionary versions of himself peel off to join him in the dance. Since performance magic is new to him as well, this is accomplished with varying degrees of success.
Quality: Decent/Good? He has a lot of energy and potential but it's clear he's new at this. He's mostly just doing this for the experience.
How About That Cranky Judge: she will absolutely make him cry if she comes after him! which she is more than welcome to.

Artwork: A song and dance routine to an English cover of Tell Your World.
Category: Primarily song, and also dance!
Meaning/Interpretation: Reaching out to others is good? Music brings people together? Yes, let's go with those.
Magical Effects: A magical light show, with lots of motes and stars floating around during the verses, and bright colored lines shooting out to connect them in pleasing patterns during the choruses.
Quality: Good! All proper high notes are hit, everything is pleasing to the ear, lots of energy. But it's not the most challenging song ever, it's more than a little twee, and the light show is fairly abstract even if it's very colorful.

Magical Effects: Magical weather effects, starting with a light drizzle, proceeding to a harder rain that varies in intensity with the moodiness of the song, then ceases and evaporates entirely once the performance is over. (It is even going to do this if the performance is indoors. Nero does not care.)
Quality: Decent. It's competently played, but the magic produced is subtle and subdued. Not very original.

Student Specialties: This is definitely his main focus - combining ballet and ice skating
Artwork: An interpretation of The Tragic Prince regaining his emotions through dance.
Category: Dance
Meaning/Interpretation: The importance of expressing emotion, no matter whether that is through art or not, as the lack of emotion keeps one from being whole.
Magical Effects: Passes along a taste of the regained emotions, letting them build throughout the piece to a place of contentment and joy and a sense of completeness which was entirely lacking at the beginning. (additionally, some props provide illusory effects, and his costuming changes in the latter half of the program.)
Quality: Solidly Good, possibly on the upper edge to the median Great.
How About That Cranky Judge: I don't think the judge ripping into him would help Alcuin in the long term in overcoming his doki-initiated weirdness around Sabetha. So let's skip that part, please.
Listen All of Y'all It's a Sabotage: Yes! Someone could sabotage it. He'd be understandably upset, and it could be potentially dangerous, given that it's on magical ice and he's dancing with knives on his feet, so be careful what you sabotage if you don't want him legitimately hurt?

Meaning/Interpretation: This is focused on the freedom and joy of flight - not necessarily original, but enthusiastically heartfelt in this case.
Magical Effects: The colored smokes stay where he puts them until the entire picture is formed, and then it shifts and moves, some parts flying out of it entirely to do tricks with him.
Quality: Good
How About That Cranky Judge: You sure can! ...of course Kyle might eat you for breakfast when he got wind of it. But I'm up for it!

SECOND PERFORMANCE
Student Specialties: This is his secondary area of study, but study it intently he does.
Artwork: A Rousing Speech! Originally meant to be a memorized performance but ends up being completely off the cuff.
Category: Oratory
Meaning/Interpretation: It's pretty clear in the text - don't beat down on each other in order to win. Work as a team ya ninnies. (I do have the speech actually written so lemme know if you want a link to the document.)
Magical Effects: Focuses the attention of everyone in the room upon the speaker for the duration and strengthens their resolve to work together instead of against each other.
Quality: ...can I claim excellent? Is that a thing I can do? Definitely at least Good, I would say somewhere between the mysterious Great and Excellent. It's certainly passionate.
How About That Cranky Judge: Sure! ...Just. Same note as above. Kyle will probably maul you.

Student Specialties: Kelly doesn't so much specialize in perpetual vs performative magic, it's more that she has one thing (light) that she applies to both - and a few specific things that she's interested in, and that she's thus honed to perfection. Working with prisms to create illusions at the outer end of attention is one of those specific things. So yes, this is her speciality!
Artwork: Using sunlight and a variety of prisms that are constantly being rearranged, Kitty creates a dancing flurry of broken light, rainbows cascading around the room, forming and re-forming patterns and figures, playing with shadows and light.
Category: Conceptual?
Meaning/Interpretation: OH LOOK IT'S PRETTY I bet you can't catch the light.
What's a meaning? Can you eat it?Magical Effects: The light is forming illusions of various kinds: The feeling of someone tapping your shoulder from behind, the sudden barking of a dog at your feet, a dragon flying straight at you, bunnies playing in the corner of your vision, and so on. It always uses a viewer following some colour or motion in the light to direct their eyes to (or away from, in the case of audio/tactile impressions) the illusion in question. The illusions themselves seem absolutely real.
Quality: Exceptional for her age, but probably closer to decent in the greater picture. There certainly is a lot of raw magic, but she definitely could use a more varied technique, and she only goes for one specific effect for her illusions - catching people unawares and making them jump. [Note to the mods: If possible, I'd like to say that Kelly didn't actually enter this into the tourney; she just did it to prank people, and for one reason or the other in true Plucky Orphan style, the judges assumed that she was performing an entry into the tourney here.]

Artwork: Dancing to Now I Know because I'm lazy (ignore the maid outfit). Not singing because she's worried about the effects/fairness of possibly Siren Song-ing in front of locals.

Meaning/Interpretation: A song about breaking free of others' expectations and gaining confidence in self-expression, expressed through confident and forceful stage dance. She's not a Champion, she's not looking to do anything bleeding-edge here.
Magical Effects: You know the light show in that video? Don't ignore that part. If she can manage it she'll also try to make an illusionary partner to cover Naoto's part in this piece.
Quality: Exceptional. She does this for a living.
How About That Cranky Judge: Yes please. Technically Rise's going to be pretty flawless but she could easily be called out for not doing something more challenging or less horrendously cliché for a young woman.
