You were brought to Londinium five years ago to learn the details of governance, but this wasn’t your first interaction with the royal court; High King Germaine has been mentoring you for a long time, and supports your placement as his rightful heir. You’ve worked for this all your life, and think you could be a good monarch - not as flashy as some, sure, but competence isn’t always flashy (or stable, for that matter).

You don’t want to believe your cousin is going to try to take your birthright, but you’ve heard whispers about it for a while now, and people like to talk as though it’s a done deal. Albion’s been at peace for a century, and doesn’t need another civil war; you could stop a potential conflict easily, by abdicating in your cousin’s favor. The problem is, you don’t want to do that…

Plot Skill: Caledfwlch - Your uncle gave you this sword when he brought you to Londinium five years ago. He told you that it was forged by a genius of the smithy and that it was given to the High King’s heirs to carry since the days of Arthur. You don’t know if that’s true. All you know is that it can cut through steel or stone as if it were wood.

Your father, the High King Germaine, is your hero. You grew up watching him run Albion, and you’ve always wanted the chance to follow in his footsteps and do what he’s done - so you were very upset to learn your cousin was going to inherit the throne instead. Since he moved to Londinium, you’ve listened in on what of his mentoring sessions you could. To you, this isn’t even about power; you sincerely believe you would be the best person to safeguard Albion’s future.

You’ve been gathering allies for the last few years, to support you in your bid for the throne if you can’t convince your cousin to abdicate. Albion doesn’t need another civil war, and you really don’t want to have to start one over this - if you can just get him to listen to you, you’re sure he’ll see sense.

Plot Skill: Chalabrum - A sheath that’s been in your mother’s family for years, although the sword it once bore is long gone. You’ve been told that a genius of leatherworking created it and that it will grant you limited protection, should you wear it. Although it cannot keep you from dying in any other way, it will prevent you from bleeding to death.

You’re a childhood friend of the Former Druid (sibling or cousin are also valid options - plot with AL!); once upon a time, the two of you did everything together, up to and including preparing for the initiation rite. You passed the test, eventually accruing honor and acclaim among the druids; your friend failed and took off for Gaule, and you haven’t seen him since.

Until now. He’s back for the abdicoronation ceremony, full of ominous statements - and you can’t tell whether they’re meant to be taunts or warnings after so long apart. On top of that, everyone wants you to take a side in the matter of succession, when they should all know druids are supposed to be neutral.

Relationships:
Rightful Heir - They’re a good kid. You’ve already got a good working relationship with them and you’ve been looking forward to dealing with them in the future.
High King’s Child - If their father had been their mother, they’d have been a fine heir. As it is, you wish they’d realize that you’re supposed to be neutral and stop trying to get you to support their claim.
Master of Ceremonies - A dedicated servant of the High Crown and the genii of Albion alike.
Former Druid/Possessed Former Druid - They aren’t the person you used to know. Then they REALLY aren’t the person you used to know.
Rich Dabbler - It’s stupid to feel like you’ve been replaced. You still feel like you’ve been replaced.
Genius-Descendant - Your old best friend’s protegee. You can see why they chose them.
Magical Contract Lawyer - Maybe you could get them to tell you about what your old friend’s been doing since they ran off?

Plot Skill: Voice of Albion - A gift of the Lady of Albion, when you use this Voice you can be heard by anyone in a hundred-foot radius as clearly as if you were standing next to them--and anyone of Albion (or any of its alternate universe counterparts) will have to listen to what you’re saying, whether or not they choose to heed your words.

Since that was the end of your magical ambitions in Albion, you took off to Gaule to learn how to summon genii anyway. Quite a lot of study and research later, you founded the Ring of Solomon.

Still, your ambitions were beyond you until you pulled the Genius-Descendant into the circle; their presence helps you attract the attention of bigger and better genii all the time. Careful cultivation of them and the rest of the circle has led you to this moment: You’re going to summon and bind to service a major genius that’s just as strong as - no, stronger than - the Lady of Albion herself, put that power behind whichever side of the succession proto-crisis is willing to make you their court wizard, and finally get back at those damned druids.

This attempt will be made in Week 2 of the jaunt - and it will backfire horribly, resulting in your full possession by the Genius-Descendant’s ancestor (plot with Bookie to figure out who that is!). Major genii aren’t immune to the call of power, and being a court wizard would certainly bring power with it - but will you ever be in control of your own body again? How can you expel a major genius that you invited in? What do the two of you do now???

Genius-Descendant - You’ll admit that you’re jealous of them. Nobody made them give up THEIR natural gifts. But that just makes it more satisfying to use those gifts for your benefit.

Plot Skill: Major Genius Summoning - Once a Jaunt after this Jaunt, you can summon the Major Genius to possess you once more, for a duration of up to three hours. They will have their full range of powers, but this will also be a full possession--so use this skill wisely. (Any thread during the period that you’re possessed during the Jaunt may count for a proof for this skill.)

You befriended the Former Druid shortly after his arrival in Lyonne, and have been in on the Ring of Solomon since its founding, bankrolling a lot of its more expansive (and expensive) schemes. Magic is much more of a hobby, for you, but it’s more satisfying than you expected it to be, watching his schemes take flight and riding the vicarious high. You’re entirely in favor of taking advantage of Albion’s potential succession crisis, and willing to make the right bribes to see to it that your friend gets what he wants.

After the summoning attempt backfires in Week 2, it will be extremely apparent to you that your friend is no longer driving his own bus, so to speak. Maybe, if you keep up appearances and pretend nothing’s wrong, you can convince a major genius to cede control or show some kind of vulnerability. And maybe, while you’re at it, you can convince everyone else to solve the possession problem while you’re busy babysitting a powerful entity...

Genius-Descendant - This is all their fault. If they hadn’t come along, your friend wouldn’t have bitten off more than he could chew.

Plot Skill: Everyone Has A Price - Just by looking at a person, you know the exact minimum amount of money you’d need to bribe them to do something. This doesn’t mean you’ll have the money right there on hand, of course, but you’re never, ever wrong about how much it will take.

The Former Druid has, since you joined the Ring of Solomon, become something of a mentor figure to you, and you’re eager to impress him. The circle’s uptick in success since you joined is certainly doing that; because there’s a major genius in your ancestry (plot with AL!), other genii are quick to answer the call of any summoning you’re a part of.

However, this isn’t without its consequences. The bigger the summoned genius, the bigger the toll the summoning process seems to be taking on you. You’ve been left feeling faint near the end of the last several rituals, and you’re worried you’re going to pass out - or worse - sooner than later. You haven’t told anyone in the circle, especially not your mentor, not when he thinks trying to summon your ancestor is the answer to all his problems.

At first, that summoning is merely a daunting prospect. After the ritual backfires in Week 2, you can safely call it your worst nightmare come true.

Former Druid - They’re your mentor! You want them to be proud of you! And yet… sometimes you worry about them.
Possessed Former Druid - Oh shit oh shit, this is your ancestor, this is your ancestor possessing them, is this your fault? Shit. SHIT.
Rich Dabbler - … don’t they realize this isn’t the real Former Druid???
Genius-Descendant - In over your head and too stubborn to admit it.
Magical Contract Lawyer - You really hope they know what they’re doing. Someone needs to know what they’re doing.

Plot Skill: Supernatural Catnip - Your presence when someone is attempting to contact a higher power guarantees that said higher power will in fact show up--no matter who it is. It doesn’t mean they’ll stay very long, but they’ll at least make a token appearance.

Magic wasn’t what you intended to be doing with your life; you once thought a career in mundane law would be perfectly satisfying. Then the Academie held an open lecture about genius contracts, and attending it changed your life - the contracts vary not only from one genius to another, but across the categories and sub-categories of summoning purposes, dismissal arrangements, and so on. After finishing out the semester at the Universite, you transferred schools and pursued your blossoming new interests.

A classmate who was in the Ring of Solomon asked for your help drawing up a genius contract, which was the first you heard of the circle; within a month, you’d taken on writing all of the circle’s contracts, and it’s not exactly bragging to say you’re responsible for a measure of the circle’s uptick in success. (Yes, yes, having the descendant of a major genius in the circle is also helping, but your contracts are ironclad and that certainly doesn’t hurt.)

Whatever backfires in the summoning of the major genius in Week 2 is not the fault of your contract; it all goes straight to hell before you even get a chance to serve it the contract. So now your leader is possessed by a major genius, the second in command is busy babysitting her possessed best friend, and someone’s got to herd cats among the rest of the circle while untangling the mess you all made.

That person is you. May all the gods help you.

Former Druid - Honestly, you’d probably have been a lot more worried about their ambitions if they hadn’t kept giving you interesting work to do. In retrospect, you probably should have realized that they were biting off more than all of you could chew.
Possessed Former Druid - YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO SIGN MY CONTRACT DAMN IT. WHY DID EVERYTHING GO WRONG?
Rich Dabbler - You can tell they’re trying to do damage control in their own way. Really. But it’s annoying to have to pick up their slack.
Genius-Descendant - You don’t completely blame them for everything--as far as you can tell, the fuck up was as much your leader’s fault as theirs--but they’re going to need to suck it up and help fix this mess.
Magical Contract Lawyer - Somebody’s going to have to find a way to fix this. It might as well be you.

Plot Skill: Legal Kung-Fu - You know how to write and leverage a solid contract. If there is a loophole, you will find it. If you construct a loophole in your own contracts, it's going to be very difficult for others to spot.

Yosuke will go by the name of Percival (Percy for friends). The Genius that possesses him is the Genius of (the Atlantic) Ocean, as discussed with Bookie.

Also Bettrys and Percival are just childhood friends; Percy was the studious and more serious one, while Bettrys the prankster.

A question about her plot skill - is it an expansion of the general Magical Contract Law skill, or would the two want to be taken separately?

I thought you'd like that aspect of your plot skill for exactly those reasons.

They'd have to be taken separately, but we'd be fine giving you Magical Contract Law as a freebie.

Question- is there an obvious reason the summoning will fail? Is Phillip going to like faint in the middle of it or something?

A question on the possession: will they be able to communicate with each other and how, if so?

I thought I could let you guys figure out how best to send everything to hell--but yeah, fainting is definitely a built in option.

Yes. It's going to be a knowing possession with Yosuke/Percy able to see what the Atlantic Ocean is doing all the time with his body and able to psychically yell at it. The Ocean can reply psychically too, although its mental 'voice' is a lot louder than Percy's.

I'm excited to see what will happen, and try my best as an important role. Noct is absolutely going to love all of this as a dethroned king himself.

it's like we get to play our version of the new pokemon games in advance when we have a sword and a ~~shield~~ sheath as our plot skills and we're going to that location... yes, yes i had to make this joke/note somewhere but may be too early for this outside of this post.

also how old do you think jaunt-weiss is going to be? i like to imagine that caelum is a bit older than noct is right now

Uhm... 20 or 21 or somewhere around there maybe? I haven't really thought about her jaunt age much before this but it's an excellent question and I can go with any!

Maybe Weiss being a little younger than him but at least 20? Since those descriptions on our infos made me think like protective and kind big brother like figure???

Yeah I was sort of going for that, since Caelum would be more prepared than Noct for the throne if he was older, maybe like 24/25. He does view Weiss as a sort of younger sibling and will probably try also to discourage her from fighting so maybe nothing too bad will happen. he doesn't rly want to fight her

Yosuke will want to avoid any and all oceans for a while after this Jaunt, I'm pretty sure.
