So this will go well and not be awkward afterwards.

Okay, I am sorry about everything I’m about to say but is it possible to steal the Hora Ultima since no one’s officially on it?

Odds are there will be Investigators on it very early on in the Jaunt, just not at the exact moment the Jaunt starts! You are more than welcome, however, to ask the collective Investigators if they would oppose the theft. If not, yes, yes you could.

Although a superstitious person might not want to - its name translates as either "Finest Hour" or "Final Hour," and the latter of those is a name of ill omen.

Bad omen or no, it might still be a safer way to arm the Cornu than trying to steal from the Paramoese military.

I’m assuming that if the smugglers are found and shaken down they’re going to believe they sent each crew exactly what they asked for? Due to the illusion magic.

Fair.

Another cargo swap-related question: does Lian know who the intended group for the weapons cargo was/where the Xunhuo cargo is? I'm assuming yes but I want to check to make sure.

brilliannnnnnt

With the saltblessed weapons, is it general knowledge that the saltblessing on them is
to prevent rust? Is it normal for weapons held by navies/groups located near the sea, to carry weapons with that saltblessing?

Basically, trying to feel out how unusual it is to find a crate of saltblessed weapons in a port.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2019-07-26 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's easy to determine upon testing but not necessarily automatically known.

It's not rare but it is expensive, so it isn't common either.

A crate would usually be ordered by a navy, and you'd expect to see sabers, cutlasses, hatchets, and pistols. This selection of weapons is quite peculiar.

Week 1

[personal profile] desperate_times_right 2019-07-27 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Lots and lots of drinking and brawling and flirting with pretty much everyone she ran into this week. Not sure whether this was a wise decision or not, but Catia decided the best way to keep anyone who might know her from suspecting that she's involved in this deal was to be seen in as many not-involved-in-arms-deals locations as possible.

Probably the two most notable things on the bad decisions front are:
- This thread where she unknowingly meets the Xunhuo Captain, since if it gets far enough she's going to try and pick his pocket
- This thread where she's shaking Ilario the smuggler down for information about the missing shipment, because it all goes super wrong thanks to Rose panicking and dismissing her to the Hora Ultima. Now she's convinced that whoever sabotaged their shipment has an illusionist with them, womp womp.

Most of the threads about planning to get the cargo back haven't gotten super far yet but these two are probably notable:
- With Riddick talking about what they're going to need to do to protect their ship if they find who has their stuff and do a straight trade for it back (ie. get the Cornu out of the port as quickly as possible to avoid whatever the rightful owners are planning to do with the mines)
- With Kaimana planning for the worst: they'll need two barrels of salt water per mermaid on the Cornu if they want to safely flee by ship if things really go sideways, and they agree that if they've lost everything else they need to sink the dragon scroll.

I just keep rocking up with questions

Would Lian recognize Cassandra/'Alexandra' in any way? Or, since he was deployed 10 years ago, will he know nothing about her?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2019-07-28 02:47 am (UTC)(link)

He would know nothing! If she presents old passwords, he would recognize them as valid, but she herself, no recognition.

cloudpotter: ([Aoninja] oh shit the cops)

[personal profile] cloudpotter 2019-07-28 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
On the topic of old passwords! How often do they get updated, and is Lian himself using older ones by virtue of having been on land for 10 years? Or do other spies deliver him new passwords somehow every so often?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2019-07-28 03:21 am (UTC)(link)

So! You get new passwords when you check in; and when you exchange passwords with a fellow spy, they also tell you when they last checked in. If they don't have the password for their latest checkin, you kill them. If you have a newer checkin, you do not give the newest password away; you give the password that matches the other's latest checkin.

cloudpotter: ([Aoninja] someone here has to think)

[personal profile] cloudpotter 2019-07-28 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
that is really cool

okay so

If Lian and Cassandra are to thread at some point, I should start a PP with mods and Zoe so that everyone's on the same page with regard to the potential outcomes? I don't wanna spring unhappy surprises on anyone, especially since Cassandra's keeping her eyes peeled for spies.

Week 1

[personal profile] helborn 2019-07-28 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Most of this week was dealing with learning that the cargo got switched, but he did encounter some new mermaids (Sento and 'Misao' aka Kinji) that he got suspicious about. He did also run into Lian, and the two spoke briefly and awkwardly.

Also he met a baby which he got excited about.

Current plans are to try to regroup and figure out what happened with the cargo, keep an eye out for new mermaids, and keep a low profile. He's realized his skin being patchy color is an issue, so he's trying to find a way to disguise that.

Week 1 Check-In

[personal profile] cloudpotter 2019-07-28 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
This week, Lian has mostly been inconveniencing people and making sure that nothing goes the way the Captain wants it to. He was not so helpful with info gathering and urged Chun to disregard the Captain's wishes. He also was seen by and subsequently hypnotized Kinji at the docks.

He's had some interaction with Casper, and with a lot of Travelers with icons, but no knowing interactions with mermaids yet. In general, he's just been unnerving people.

Next mingle, Lian will be deliberately trying to find where their cargo's gone because they do actually need it back, and he'd like to know who the weapons belong to (if they can be incited to join in the mess he's hoping the Captain's mission will become). I'm thinking potentially disguising as a crew member of each ship, to go in and check manually? It'd probably take the full week to peek in at all of them.

--or! Rather, disguise someone else from the Xunhuo side and let them go into the ships and poke around.

I just realized I didn’t put my plans at all lol. Probably tell everyone about getting teleported - she thinks it’s illusion magic right now so she might be asking around about that. Looking for their cargo, getting the ship stocked in case they need to flee with the mermaids. Having fun at any opportunity, maybe getting absolutely blitzed if possible - her father was a smuggler who was killed by pirates so the Rose stuff is freaking her out.
