The room is small, intimate. You are alone. There is no sign of a way in or out. Ping-pong balls crunch underfoot, and empty giftboxes, meticulously wrapped and ribboned, are lined up against one wall, while a humming wall of server blades are racked on the opposite wall. A high-backed, gilt chair with red velvet cushions faces an ornate, full-length mirror, and beside the chair is a mug of steaming hot chocolate on a tiny side table, steaming invitingly from beneath a layer of fifteen half-melted marshmallows.

"Love, transitions, futures... all the great mysteries." Not necessarily gods people would associate with each other. But there's a link there.

"Yes."

There's one thing she can't ignore, in all of this. Clearly this is one of their mysterious hosts. "You realize, of course, that I don't approve."

"In that, you are no different than our other Chosen. Very few of us seek approval."

[acapriciousthing]

"I don't care that you've involved me." Not true, she cares a little. It's really irritating to be so limited. "Mortal lives aren't toys."

[powersthatare]

"For us, that's very much a subject of debate."

[acapriciousthing]

"I've seen what happens. These people deserve better." She doesn't know any of them terribly well, yet. Which is strange to her. But it would take truly unique circumstances for anyone to deserve the consequences of being a mortal toy.

"'Deserve' is not a word that much concerns the majority of us," she says, dryly. "But I do not disagree."
