Did you mean humans that were elementalists? Would that mean humans with no elemental powers would not be able to affect anything, period?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-03-17 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)

No, I mean elementalists would have access to their elemental abilities, humans who AREN'T (weren't) would have only weak poltergeisty things.

I swear, I will eventually stop bugging you with all these endless questions, but - in regards to Matthew's exclusive skill. How does he gather information, exactly? Does he compel the spirit to tell him the truth? What's involved in the ritual for the generations dead?

Also, how would this ability work on Investigators, seeing as they just get respawned? I imagine they might not necessarily leave behind a spirit to summon. Would it even work at all?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-03-18 05:02 am (UTC)(link)

Compel via harassment, intimidation, bribery and persuasion - his powers can make their afterlife more or less inconvenient than it already is. Mostly they are relieved to be heard, and getting them to talk is a simple bargain. By directly channeling a spirit, he could make it very hard to hide its thoughts from him...

The ritual would involve time, prayer, maybe specific chants, incensr, blood? Details can be your call.

It takes a while to respawn, so a freshly dead investigator is fair game.

Right, so no magical ability to compel the truth then. What kind of things can he offer / threaten a spirit with? Sending them to a nice/not so nice afterlife, letting them manifest, doing tasks for them? That sort of thing?

Post-jaunt, will this ability work the same way? Will an actual spirit still appear?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-03-18 05:21 am (UTC)(link)

Doing them services, letting them manifest or possess him... displacing them, summoning them continually, banishing them entirely.

Yes, and usually yes (unless there is an in jaunt reason for it not to.)

He's definitely having Alexia get killed off, and he may end up hassling some NPCs at some point. (I have not gotten far on that latter point.) He'd be more than happy to make some move against the Sun Guard as well after Masshuu pissed him off at the meeting, though.

...you kind of make me feel like I'm doing it wrong. XDD No, nothing yet.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-03-22 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)

No, not at all! It's an OPTION, not a requirement; but I want to check in with all the captains, masters, chiefs, & elders every week to make sure I'm not missing any major power push.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-03-22 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)

Let me know if there's anything specific re: the Sun Guard, otherwise, thanks! o7

(is he having someone specific kill Alexia?)

No attacks he doesn't give enough fucks for that - mostly he'll be moving to act defensively regarding any potential attacks on the Sun Guard.

Although he is going to set some ghosts to permanently haunt Hajime along with a nice little note reminding Hajime that he would need Masshuu to unsummon them for him.

Follow-up thoughts as we roll toward week 2...

*Chiyo asked the apprentice summoner Teen Girl Squad to keep an eye out for any likely candidates to lead Door Number Four while they were in Suzuki. Would anyone have possibly stood out to them?

*I hear tell that Raidou's Questing Sense is pinging hard to Chiyo, and funny enough they're already talking. Is there anything else I need to know about why he's pinged so hard to her?

*One of the things I'd like to happen this jaunt, this upcoming mingle if possible (but it may depend on how traveling around the peninsula works out), is for Chiyo to see one of the Trump marks people just got. I presume the local Dragons haven't done anything like this before? Would her chi insight give her any perspective on how they work?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-03-22 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)

As a plot infiltrator, she was the closest part of the Purpose of the Jaunt to him.

... Door Number Four?

Correct, and she could tell that unlike her tattoos, they don't work on chi. It's some form of spirit binding, with the person marked as the person bound, and the mark as a manifestation of that contract (hence why the tattoos can't be removed, and just show up again if damaged).

Will do! Relations with the Sun Guard look to be deteriorating to the point that Masshuu's going to have Hajime get haunted, and I'm still not sure on whether or not any violence with the Sun Guard will precede this. He will, however, be retaliating next week somehow.

And I almost forgot to mention, he's setting Kenzaki to tail Near, because Near managed to make him very suspicious. It's not going to end in Kenzaki's favor.

(He is not! I don't think it was ever settled on Plurk who would be doing the thing.)

EDIT: So after talking with Blue, an Akuryu (can be an NPC or a player character, doesn't matter) is going to kill off a lone NPC member of the Sun Guard that looks easy enough to pick off. That'll get the ball rolling for Masshuu to decide to haunt Hajime.

'Door Number Four' being the unity-and-rebellion business.

ooooooooooooooooh, interesting.

The Suzuki might be amenable; but the others seem less likely to unite easily, and Nakamiyo is by far the most friendly/obedient to the Shogun, and so seemingly least likely to rebel.
