More technical question: what exactly does it mean that swords can tap into a clan legacy or ancestry? Is this a magic sort of thing, I'm presuming? And if so, is it literally summoning an ancestor into the blade to help fight or offer guidance, or if one's family has a history of elemental magic would it channel an element, is it more of imbuing it with a generic power that just makes the wielder stronger overall?

Magic, yes. A family of elementalists would make an elemental weapon. A family of swordsmen, increase skill. It essentially increases any inherited quality or tendency it finds in the person it was made for.

Not sure if Megan asked you, but Ridou set a few people (including Alcuin) to searching the Sun Guard archives for references to alien dragons and ousting spirits from shrines. Would they have turned up anything in particular? I know Alcuin is planning on doctoring the data a bit if they do, but just so we know.

They believe there are other spirits in other nations, and that they may not appear as dragons necessarily, but as other creatures, and that they may be strange. But there's no reference to them invading, and there's no reference to ousting from shrines.
