(NAME WITHHELD)

Name/Played By: Reynard / Daneel
Alignment: Chaotic Good.
Theme/Story Role Pinocchio. Reynard devoutly desires more traffic between the spirit world and this world, a closer union between spirits and humanity on more equal terms, but also fears detection by those spirits. Longing to be human, needing acceptance, Reynard’s need for redemption is more important to him than what is legal or what “the greater good” may be.
Information: Reynard can unneringly spot, and usually identify, other Spirits in hiding. However, he often cannot reveal this knowledge to others without giving himself away.
Expected Activity: 7+ comments/week.
Exclusive Skill: Foxform. Reynard can assume an alternate form - that of a large red fox. While in this form, he retains his normal Empowered abilities, and additionally cannot be physically restrained in any way or hindered by terrain. He is still capable of human speech as a fox. However, anyone who has heard of him can easily recognize him.

Reynard is a member of the White Company with a secret - they’re an immigrant, all right, but not from another nation. They’re a Spirit, a refugee from the Spirit World once renowned as a trickster thief, but whose antics caused too much damage. While truly sorrowful and repentant, the outrage they caused was too great to apologize for, and now they’re in hiding, quietly trying to atone (and to learn how humans work, if they have to live among them long-term). In human form, their powers are generic - enhanced strength, speed, and durability, the classic ‘tank’ superhero. There are at least a dozen in the company with similar powers.

What was he up to this week?

This week, he basically bothered people.

He bothered Melissa because he recognises her from old times. He bothered people who looked like they needed help. He bothered people because he likes them.

That's about it. :3 He considers this time well spent.

Week Two

He hung around and watched the protests in case things got violent enough to step in. He attended the White Company's recruitment garden party. He went dancing and actually somehow convinced Captain Blackhawk to come with him????

Also Phillip tried to break into his apartment and was caught and also saw Reynard in his foxform, but Reynard/Dan was really just kind of amused and nostalgic and offered some helpful lectures on the art of fine thievery.

Week Three

What was Reynard up to this week? Any plans for next week?

Reynard was more than a little disturbed by all the paperwork-checking. He wasn't entirely cooperative when he got roped into helping, and he also got very worried about his own paperwork and ended up running out to Captain Blackhawk's more remote tower home and revealing himself as a spirit and also please let him stay here until he doesn't have to worry about the fact that his birth certificate is a fake anymore.

week four

Reynard will be able to spot almost right away - the King and Queen? aren't human. of course, reporting that without tipping off his identity is tricky, especially because, of course, anyone who could act on that ANSWERS to the King & Queen.

Week Five

What was Reynard up to this last week? Anything planned for next week?

Reynard has been telling people (anyone who'll listen) that the King and Queen are not human. He's told Blackhawk, Phillip, and L, as those three know he's a spirit (L caught him out in the crowd, oops), as well as trying to tell other members of the White Company while being obscure about how he knows it.

He's having this attempt with Hypersonic but I don't know yet how successful he'll be.

He's telling people to spread the word as much as possible, especially since Blackhawk's confirmed for him that this is a recent change.

Plans for next week, are, uh. This is still being attempted.

Question.

Wondering if I should have more context for Reynard's Big Fuckup. Anything in particular? Huge loss of life, I assume? Is it anything immediately plot relevant?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-07-21 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)

loss of life, yes, but we didn't devise details as it isn't specifically relevant to the plot - you are more than welcome to craft an incident that works for you!

.... something that has just occured to me.

As many powers come from spirits, and the Manticore Knights receive their powers directly from the Manticore, is granting skills similar to his own abilities also something Reynard would be capable of? Is that a difficult process? Does it require more power than he actually has?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-07-29 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)

yes, yes, and no - but granting others power lessens his proportionately. the manticore is terrifying because he has empowered s hundred heroes and is still the second biggest deal on earth.

So if he granted powers to someone, would that halve his power, or not quite? Could he control how much of his power he gave? How powerful is Reynard considered to be and how much could he give away before it seriously hampered him?

sorry i have so many questions

[personal profile] powersthatare 2016-07-29 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)

depends on how much he gave them, which he would be in full control of. i expect reynard could fully empower one hero and go down to about 50-60%, or could give crappy powers to as many as half a dozen people at anout trn percent each.
