Name: Tadashi "Ted" Smith Age: 25 Professions: semi-professional bartender, newbie small-time actor, newbie stuntman Common Locations: The Last Cut, his apartment, action sequence stages, gymnasium, stuntmen's practice Appearance:All black hair, no scarring
Pretty calm and cheerful, likes to try and help everyone, a little starstruck. He's been working at The Last Cut as a bartender for about 2 years now, not really expecting anything more, and when he tossed out a combative drunk one night he almost dropped him on the casting director for the latest film. Who gaped at him. And then offered him a job as a background cop with like. Two speaking lines. Since then Ted's life has been a little hectic, learning the interior workings of the film and training in the stunt work necessary. He may also have a really obvious crush on the stunt coordinator (Matt Holt). Like. Painfully obvious. It's bad.
Tad's a good guy to know on a casual, friendly basis, to have told secrets to or to talk to when you're down. He's also a good guy to have with you in a fight. He's also pretty open to being hijacked into being the bartender at your weekend party. Just please don't talk shit about the military in front of him. That's a hot button for him.
Name: Matt Holt Age: Late Twenties Job: Stunt Coordinator for Transcendent Pictures
Backstory: Matt's father is on the short list of people to go to the moon. He wanted to do the space program as well, but washed out mostly for physical reasons. (He has a bum knee that goes out occasionally, and he's shit as a pilot.) Instead, he took his knowledge of physics and turned it into the ability to toss men twice his size across the room, and fall without getting hurt.
He has a good friend, Tad, who he clearly has a deep crush on, and knows quite a few people around set. Not the most powerful in movies, but you wouldn't want to try to assault him in a dark alley.
Name: Jesse Parker Age: Early Twenties Job: A bit of everything, but mostly working as a bartender on the Last Cut or around studio as a delivery boy. Goals: To become a star/a famous actor.
The lead actor and main antagonist for the upcoming movie being shot by Nabiki's Big Studio. Despite a sincere and earnest love of the spotlight, she's also one of the most cheerful and well-meaning people in Vineland; a sizeable chunk of her income goes towards charities of various sorts, and she loves trying to support new talent.
On the other hand, she's probably about one bad film away from retiring; as much as she loves the limelight, she would also like to have an actual, modest, quiet life one day. Maybe help her work friends raise their kids.
Name: Sampson Kennedy Age: Mid-40s(?) Profession: The Director Often Found: On set. ... Does he ever leave, other than to go to the bar?
Stressed and overworked, Kennedy (though for most that's "Mister Director" to you) is a large man who has turned skinny due to stress over all this bullshit. He's never been the most patient, and is known for being somewhat demanding of his actors, but it's because he really believes in making the best quality films possible.
Unfortunately, there are too many people pulling in too many directions on this project, and he's about one more executive demand from having a goddamn meltdown. That said, he can motivate like no one's business, and can absolutely get people on board with things that need doing.
Name: Rose de Witte Age: Twenties Job: Set design Role: Girl Next Door
Rose is a former child star in the Shirley Temple mode who retired during her awkward puberty and never went back, mostly because she realized that she enjoyed making movie sets way more than being in front of the camera. Her mother, Blanche de Witte, is a famous director whose work was very much in the German Expressionist style. Rose grew up running around the studios with her best friend Phillip, whose parents were often working on her mother's movies.
(Currently, she has a terrible crush on Phillip's co-star and fiancee, Gabe LeBlanc, but ssssshhhhh, it's a secret.)
Name: Daiki Konishi Age: mid-20s Job: owner of Final Cut Backstory: Daiki followed his sister Natsuki to Vineland - she was the one with aspirations of stardom. She's been dead for a few years, but had bit parts in a few movies before that happened (probably illness; all I know for sure is it's not foul play this time out). By the time she died Daiki was too well-established to bother moving.
Name: Ahmed "Altaïr" Najm Age: late thirties Job: Stuntman and fight instructor
Specializing in freefalls, on-foot chases, climbs, and fight scenes, Altaïr's skills are a force to be reckoned with. However, an easy camaraderie and strong work ethic makes him a less intimidating guy to work with than he could be. Sometimes he has moments of dissonant introspection or intense adrenaline, and he keeps very much to himself in personal matters.
He doesn't make it widely known that he lost his parents while on an expedition with them in the Rockies, later joined the army, and was recruited in the 1st Special Service Force (or this world's equivalent). Despite the honor, he is trying to leave that chapter of his life behind him.

... He's surprisingly good at finding costumes, though.
