Since they used to be buddies, do you want to chat about some pre-memwipe history for them?

Yes and no - it depends a bit on what mod response I get to my question further up.

But I guess the baseline is: Going by their descriptions, it feels like Daneel's and Jackie's overlay should already have been quite good friends before Jackie got it into his head to help the beastfolk out. Do you have any ideas for how they might have met/how long they've known each other?

I feel like in this setting, it makes sense to have known people for a long time. I'm not sure how much migration you get between space stations. So I'm definitely in favour of them going way back.

Okay, with a bit more details under my belt: How about Jackie and Daneel have known each other pretty much forever, same preschool, same school, everything. They didn't end up very alike in personality but they're essentially siblings so they stuck together to a degree anyway.

Didn't change when Jackie got together with a young woman named Char some... twenty-ish years ago. Daneel probably heard from Jackie about the little oops that was Char getting pregnant, and that they made some kind of deal with the Producers so the baby could live, but that was all very just-so-you-know-why-I'm-distracted-don't-tell-anyone.

Fast forward to five years ago, when Jackie's partner vanished.

And then fast forward again a bit to perhaps two years ago when Jackie told Daneel that his gf had been turned into a mythic and the Producers had lied to them when they made their deal about the baby, and that he has a plan for how to make the whole mythic program go bust.

Oh, nice.

In that case, Daneel would probably be hesitant but not reluctant, you know? Heroics are not really his expertise, but Jackie is his bro, and this is awful, and yeah, this needs to stop, not just because of Char but because of everything. This is probably a crazy idea but Daneel has your back.

Heroics are the exact opposite of Jackie's expertise, too, so Daneel could at least trust him to not be overly head-first about the whole thing.

And it's totally just because of Char and the kid on Jayden's part. (Yay he has name now!) He's not someone overly steered my morals or similar concepts. Not that Jayden would tell Daneel that if it means that the other man will be on board with doing something.

Whatever it is might end up as 'You Bastard' later, but they can probably think of something reasonably better than that for the interim.

You've got free reign to make up whatever you feel suits him! The hacking/programming knowledge and working with Jayden were the only things set stone!

If you'd like, he could have done some serious damage to files/systems in the station as a middle finger to the producers while he was getting caught. That's an established thing that happened.
