Slivers & Shards Pre-Moebius Veteran Info

This jaunt is a revisit to the world of the failed jaunt that directly precipitated Moebius. If you’d like to talk to the mods about what your character might remember, drop us a line in the comments below.

Thace has one memory already, and would have been trying to get more (he's Either finally taking the Advanced Mnemonics skill in Dec, or I'll get a thread started before the end of Nov to cash it in as his free skill and I'm confident of skill/double skill so!)

[personal profile] powersthatare 2019-12-02 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Let us know what kinds of memories he'll be aiming for, and what sorts of actions he's likely to have taken on the Jaunt!

Okay, Thace would have abhorred the Overmind. On the other hand, extinction was an awful price for freedom. He wouldn't have agreed with a Traveller strike (but probably could have been kept in liminal if someone wanted to stop him acting via portal lockdown or something; portals was never his strength), and would have devoted all his time to finding ways to help the rebels survive after they got their freedom, and probably been encouraging them to play a long game, if they could afford it. (Store up supplies, techniques, etc to survive after they used the hellstone) Infiltration and stealing information to help the rebels is something he would have considered as a first course of action. He would have been very willing to die to help the rebels get what they needed to survive the coming battles they would face.

Okay! As the Jaunt goes on, we will work on some reveals along these lines!

Bismuth hasn't gathered any memories from this jaunt yet, but I think she would have been investigating for it!

[personal profile] powersthatare 2019-12-02 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
is it fair to say in the battle of Centralized Mind Control versus Risk of Extinction, Bismuth is likely to have been willing to risk extinction for the sake of being free from White Diamond right-think and the Overmind?
letsgetdowntobismuth: (Default)

[personal profile] letsgetdowntobismuth 2019-12-02 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely she would be. PreMoeBismuth would MUCH rather stand up and risk dying than stay complicit.

I fell off the bandwagon in later weeks with Bismuth, but is there anything she might remember about the Rebellion or Hellstones, especially with the subject being broached on the network by Allura?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2020-02-24 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Only that stealing one and using it was a high priority - there was even one plan to find one that destroyed psionic potential, loop power through it, and create a null-psionic refuge for the rebels.

This did not seem likely to work as advertised.

Allura hasn't recovered any memories of this jaunt yet, though she does have Advanced Mnemonics and will be trying to get on fixing that once everyone figures out where they are. She would've been Infiltrating during the failed jaunt.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2019-12-02 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
She can certainly pick up right away that the sky looks familiar to her! Let us know what she starts focusing on and we will get her some anecdotes about it!

Since they've learned that the Travelers were identified as the Portori, she'd focus on the impact they had as wildcards in the conflict from a native perspective, and what happened after they withdrew.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2020-02-06 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
From the native perspective, they were incredible assets for bypassing security, mostly. They weren't particularly trusted, but they were relied on.

When they withdrew, more or less during the mission that assassinated Malion, they were assumed to be martyred in the battle that surrounded that. The plan had been that they would have helped a team of rebels steal and place a Hellstone and escape. Without their help, there was a bloodbath, and a protracted battle in the upper Spire of some city - not Fallenheart or Fallen Wrath - and the Hellstone was not recovered by any side, its whereabouts unknown.

There was an extremely acrimonious dispute post-Jaunt about whether a Traveler had made the Hellstone go missing and what they had done with it that was, to the best of her knowledge, never resolved.

Absolutely want some stuff for Riddick! He's been doing a lot of memory recovery work over the past few years so he might have some already. He's gonna be investigating on the Jaunt, I'm up for whatever on the previous visit to the Jaunt.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2019-12-02 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
So! Riddick will remember that there was a god-king called Malion The Protector, that everyone gave psychic energy to the Overmind when they were slept and that they could be tracked or 'adjusted' by the Overmind's right-think; that there were rebels, that there were cthonic kaiju called Nation Eaters, but the Travelers only encountered a single small one (under two hundred feet!).

The soil quality was much better back then.

Also, the pivotal conflict was over the possession of psychic crystal WMDs called 'hellstones' and the Travelers were uncomfortably with either the god-king or the Rebels getting hold of them. What's worse, the Overmind, or the loss of all technology and all defense against Nation Eaters? Travelers as a group declined to make a choice, although individuals may still have gotten involved. Remy definitely still got involved

Fun!

Would he remember what they might have done to, uh, earn the statues?

[personal profile] protect_and_serve 2019-12-04 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
There was definitely a discussion of attempting to kill Protector Malion; whether he would have gone in on that attempt or not is player judgment; and if said attempt succeeded , if so, is still a hazier memory.

But really, if he fought for the Rebels at all, even at the beginning of the Jaunt (even if what he really did was stab a Protectorate goon trying to read his mind, with no Rebellion in mind at all), and especially if he had any degree of psychic protection, he could have earned the Rebels' admiration.

Hey, so, in light of the whole "there's a missing hellstone" thing, Riddick is going to do a mind palace reconstruction of the attack on Malion (decided that he was in on it cuz hey, killing authority figures, he's done that a handful of times now). Will he spot anyone out of place or running off to go steal a hellstone? Allura is invited, and as an infiltrator at the time (mun is p sure anyway?) she might have a better idea of who was supposed to be where.

[personal profile] powersthatare 2020-02-24 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it was definitely Remy. He was properly sneaky about it, but re-examining the memories, he's the one who vanished there and didn't re-appear in Liminal Space until after the full-on Traveler strike had begun.

Yukki remembers the strike, and I think some of what led up to it. She was Investigating during the strike Jaunt. (Thorne's also used Psychic Healing on her to help her reconstruct her memories of Steven; I don't know if that would have also helped her begin to repair her lost memories in general, but it could be a thing?)

[personal profile] powersthatare 2019-12-02 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
It could be! Yukki can remember that the Travelers deplored the tactics, aims, and outcomes that both factions in the Jaunt were aiming for - it was basically "is mind control worth the cost of survival" and nobody wanted to support either brainwashing or extinction.
razorblade_empress: (Hmm)

[personal profile] razorblade_empress 2019-12-08 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there anything she might remember about said tactics, aims, and outcomes, or the state of the world in general, as the Jaunt goes on?

SOMEHOW MISSED THIS BEFORE NOW

[personal profile] protect_and_serve 2020-01-05 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
PROTECTORATE
-absolutely tyrannical & run by megalomaniacs.
-totalitarian, willing to use hellstones aggressively against rebels or foreign vales
-purged and reprogrammed rebellious minds, including into cavosophia
-seemed necessary to sustaining life, but were willing to use that as a blanket justification for anything they did short of an extinction event

REBELS
-their sacks of the cities were BRUTAL and destroyed infrastructure as a deliberate tactic to make the cities less worth reconquering
-they discussed using the Hellstones against Protectorate cities that hadn't fallen
-they did not have a coherent vision of how their society would survive without the Overmind / dreampush-powered utilities for irrigation, transportation, industrial fabrication, mining, energy, etc.
-used child soldiers, especially katadors
-discussed attempting to use nation eaters against Protectorate strongholds, but never figured out how

Wrong account for this, but is there anything else she might have remembered?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2020-02-07 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
The precipitating incidents for the final Traveler strike were the assassination of Malion in Moonfall becoming a rather brutal sack of the city, and a "secret mission" turning out to be the intended theft of a Hellstone. Many Travelers had already withdrawn, but in the middle of that, it became close to universal.
