CANON POINTS AND CANON DEPARTURES, TRAVELER BACKSTORIES, OTHER AU/PG DETAILS CANON POINTS Players are welcome to app characters from any point in their canon, as long as they can write an app and demonstrate a voice appropriate to that point in their canon. It’s perfectly acceptable to app characters at the point of their death, at the beginning of their story, or from a point in their canon where their behavior and attitudes are markedly different than what people are most familiar with. However, if the character described in the app does not seem to the mods to resemble the character at the described canon point, you may be asked for app revisions, or to try apping an AU version of the character instead. CANON DEPARTURES So, what kinds of AU do we accept? Yes. Canon AUs, Postgame Characters, Genderswaps, Genre AUs, ‘What if’ scenarios, Previous Universes visited in-game… all we ask is that you can both describe the original character, the changes in character, their universe of origin, and be very clear on where your departure point is. How much is canon and how much is headcanon? There’s no wrong answer as long as you can accurately describe it and write convincingly voiced samples for it. VETERAN APPS If you already play a character in Synodiporia, or have played with us in the past, you may choose to app your character as a Veteran Traveler, someone who’s already been around the block and/or universe and had the basics explained to them. Your first character cannot be a veteran. If applying as a veteran, let us know in your application and choose a list of no more than three consecutive Jaunts from Phase One or Phase Two (Moebius through Lightside/Darkside) that your character was present for. You may not app a veteran from Welcome To The World Series or the subsequent (Phase Three) Jaunts. Tell us what these Jaunts are, and which of the Veteran Intro options you’d like to enter with. If you choose the backstory Jaunts (Moebius-Spark-Belljar), there’s a few extra things you should know; check out the corresponding section of the FAQ. TRAVELER BACKSTORIES So, you’re apping in a veteran Traveler, and you want to establish a history of what they’ve done in-game? Preferably, you’ll be describing this in your app, but there are also a few other places you should go. The CR Meme, the Previous Universes page, and the Acquiring Skills page are all places where you can research & establish your character’s history as a Traveler. The two cautions we offer: One, be sure other players are cool with the past CR you’d like to establish with their characters before you start including it in-game. Two, know your Previous Universes and don’t give yourself a role in them that steals thunder from other characters. You can be a prominent contributor, but don’t try to be The Hero or write yourself a past that would require everyone else in-game to know about it.
