SKILL EQUIVALENCES.

SKILL EQUIVALENCES

If your character came into the game with previous skills from canon or another game, they may have equivalents among the in-game skills. If you'd like to use those skills as if they had the same mechanisms as game-granted skills, you may list the game skills applicable, along with a brief explanation of why or how your character has that particular skill - for example, characters with police or private investigator training could claim the Crime Scene Investigation skill, based on their previous training. If the skill was acquired in a previous game rather than canon, we may ask for a thread proof of the character gaining that skill.

Skill equivalences can be taught to other Travelers, and only apply to Jaunt skills - Liminal and Psychic equivalences are assigned at app time, as we cap those powers in-game. It is only necessary to claim a skill equivalence if your character has an interest in using or teaching it according to in-game mechanics, or if it satisfies a prerequisite for another skill. For more on skill equivalences, see here.

The skills Travelers have already learned are listed here for now; we're working on a better layout for them.

Sensory Livestreaming, Sensory Eavesdropping, Psychic Detection - Powercap

Stationary Portals, Filter Intrusion, Infoglasses - Veteran

Astronavigation & Piloting - He was a member of a fighter squadron for the rebellion and flew his fighter all the way to Dagobah.

Technical Maintenance and Upkeep (Far-Future) - Has been shown providing upkeep and maintenance to future tech in his canon (specifically the droids)

Cybernetics - He has a robot hand

Sensory Conditioning, Somatic Conditioning - According to Matt, the Conditioned are basically just Jedi with the serial numbers filed off

Character Name: Anakin Skywalker
Series: Star Wars
Skill Equivalencies Requested: Psychic Protection I, Psychic Detection I, and Memory Share, Astronavigation & Piloting, Technical Maintenance and Upkeep (Far-Future), Cybernetics, Sensory Conditioning, Somatic Conditioning
Reasoning:

Psychic Detection I, Psychic Protection I, and Memory Share - Power Cap; see app acceptance thread for details

Astronavigation & Piloting - was a Podracer at 9, and literally the only human podracer on record (Episode I); he was also a fighter pilot during the Clone Wars (Episode III) and the Battle of Death Star I (Episode IV)

Technical Maintenance and Upkeep (Far-Future) - built his own droid and racing pod as a kid; wookia/wikia confirms that he kept up mechanical skills during his time as a Jedi, doing maintenance on his lightsaber and building replacements and such.

Cybernetics - had right hand chopped off in Episode II, and other three limbs in Episode III; all four limbs have been replaced with robotic ones by the end of Episode III.

Sensory Conditioning and/or Somatic Conditioning - as explained by Matt and Bii, the Conditioned are the Syn/non-serial-number version of the Jedi.

Character Name: Jaina Solo
Series:Star Wars

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Somatic Conditioning
Reasoning: all the other Jedi are doing it As Matt said, the Conditioned are thinly veiled Jedi so she might as well pick up the one she didn't keep from the Jaunt

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Astronavigation & Piloting
Reasoning: Leia says that she's not allowed to have her own ship until she's sixteen but Jaina's been getting around that by flying everything she can get her hands on. Her canonpoint is right after she commandeered a TIE fighter to fly into combat in a truly Solo plan.

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Technical Maintenance and Upkeep (Far-Future)
Reasoning: Constantly tinkering with some bit of equipment or other. She often pulls repairs on whatever she's flying. She was able to get a crashed TIE fighter spaceworthy again and generally takes to looking after spaceships like a Calamarian to water.

Technology Use (21st Century), Many episodes throughout his life.
Wilderness Survival, Urban Survival. More urban, but many episodes throughout his life
Nuclear and Chemical Safety: just general science knowledge for him

Ecological Sciences – he knows all sciences, in particular "Forest of the Night"

Computer Programming (Far-Future) - his ability to program his sonics, along with other alien tech
Infoglasses – his Sonic Sunglasses can do more, but thought it should be listed
Proxy Control given his knowledge of advanced tech, he’d be able to do this.
Technical Maintenance and Upkeep (Far-Future) seen in practically every episode since the Time War.
Basic Crime Scene Investigation: “Under the Lake”
Ticking Time-Bomb As seen in “Face the Raven” and “Hell Bent” and “Listen”

Additional Skills I wasn’t sure where to list these, but others on this list made me think of them:
Semaphore as mentioned in “Under the Lake”
Archery As seen in “Robots of Sherwood” (though he’s not as good as what that shows and later admits to cheating.)
Parachuting as seen in “Zygon Inversion”
Sky diving/falling (Though, I included this in Aerial tricks) "Death in Heaven", "Heaven Sent"

Reasoning: Episodes these were used are listed behind each skill. Except for historical/science/tech type knowledge, I self-imposed a power-cap to only listing the skills we've seen the Twelfth Doctor actually exhibit/mention in episode, rather than everything every Doctor has done ever. This works well for skills equivalency since Doctor himself forgets what he knows until its needed. Or sometimes he thinks he knows a skill, only to realise he deleted it for another skill. (Reference to Sign Language Vs. Semaphore in "Under the Lake")

Inherent Time Sense, Jury-Rigging, Kit-Bashing, Stellar Education, Genre Savvy, Perfect Timing, & Stellar Tech/Weaponry are all completely reasonable and we are willing to grant them.

As for the other Equivalencies requested, no-one in the history of the game has requested more than about 25% the number you claimed here. Equivalencies are not needed to permit your character to do something they can already do; they are needed to use specific in-game mechanics on the rare occasion those are relevant, or for use in teaching skills to others. Of the requests you made, twenty-six do not meet our standards for similarity of skill or contradict criteria you listed in your claim (only skills Twelve used clearly does not apply to skills from Unicorn & the Wasp). For the rest, in the dubious category, it is simply extremely onerous on our time to examine the applicability of 80 individual claims, & to grant them, even if there was a canonical basis, would be unfair to players with characters from canons with less longevity and scope.

The following skills are the ones we have definitely ruled against granting. For the rest, if you would pick no more than 10 which you believe the Doctor is likely to teach, & therefore will need the Equivalency, we will take a look at that claim!

Not granted:
Lightning Age Combat As seen in Magician’s "Apprentice/Witch’s Familiar"
Lightning Age Innovation – practically ever episode ever.
Lightning Age Technology More than one has been seen in most recent episodes
Lightning Age Prostheses
Sins and Virtues
Patience: The number of times he talks about how dangerous a given situation is “Into the Dalek” and “Last Christmas”
Diligence: “Heaven Sent”
Cold Reading – he’s only about 50/50 with his accuracy, though

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Stationary Portal Creation; Teleportation 1.
Reasoning: Suggested powercaps for her dimensional abilities.

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Hammerspace 1.
Reasoning: Dimensional ability powercap for her to stash her scythe in (see below).

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Genre Savvy
Reasoning: One of her pieces in the game Lambdadelta ran was her horrible Hercule Poirot OC (do not iron, dry clean only), who demonstrated a nigh-on Mary Sue level of genre savvy for the detective genre. One of her other aspects is also related to a well-regarded author of same.

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Weapon (Illusion-Reaping Scythe)
Reasoning: Canonically, she can summon a scythe with the cosmic, allegorical ability to divide truth from fantasy; as discussed, I'd like to nerf this into a magical weapon that can destroy illusionary objects and creatures.

Character Name: Sara Hildegarde Smith
Series: Bliss Stage (OC)

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Sensory Livestreaming, Image Projection, Psychic Protection 1
Reasoning: Power cap. These skills seem to me to make the most sense as the slightly psychic prerequisite to be a Pilot; it allows for sending data to an Anchor console and resisting Nightmarish influence.

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Questing Country - Champion Magic (Summons various mecha subsystems)
Reasoning: This seems like the best fit for the ANIMa's powers (and in fact I'm squinting at Questing Country and wondering if a Bliss Stage fan had a hand in that Jaunt's creation). Her Champion powersuite would involve a 'transformation sequence' into the chassis of the mech, followed by 'drawing' appropriate weapons and subsystems. I can provide details if necessary, but will usually want it symbolically tied to her CR if possible.

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Questing Country - Bonds
Reasoning: I'm not requesting this immediately, but rather asking for mod permission for Sara to earn Bonds on Jaunts and having that reflect CR-fueled powerups to her ANIMa systems. This is a pretty close fit to how it might actually look in her canon.

Character Name: Leonardo da Vinci
Series: Assassin's Creed
Skill Equivalencies Requested:
Reasoning: I am literally only asking for these so that I might theoretically teach them to people in Leonardo's dungeon or afterwards in later Jaunts. I was told ages ago that assuming you had most of these mundane skills was all right, as long as you weren't planning on teaching anyone said skills without proof. So here is my proof:

Advanced Mnemonics - in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Leonardo is not only able to determine the location of the Temple of Pythagoras, but draw a map to its location (in invisible ink, mind you) based solely on his calculations superimposed on his mental map of the streets of Rome he has walked for about three years, give or take a few months. Furthermore he's able to reconstruct many of Altair's inventions solely from reading his Codex, and is also able to study the Apple in Assassin's Creed II and determine that it is made of metal never seen before, yet centuries or millenia old, and after seeing it in action is able to determine that the contents of the Apple would drive a weaker minded man insane.
Agriculture - Leonardo da Vinci historically grew up in a small farming village, Vinci. His grandfather Antonio and his uncle Francesco were both farmers; in fact his father Piero becoming a notary supposedly broke family tradition.
Alcohol Tolerance - Leonardo da Vinci is Italian. In the Renaissance. When they drank alcohol because water usually was unsafe to drink. He can handle his alcohol, he's a big guy.
Bureaucracy, Diplomacy, Etiquette/High Society Etiquette, & Formal Dance - Leonardo da Vinci historcally rubbed elbows with many upper-class Florentines, including Lorenzo Medici the Magnificent, who got him out of jail when he was 24. In game canon, he also spent a great deal of time around the noble Auditore family. Furthermore, he was apparently a riot at fancy parties.
Doubletalk/Innuendo - most of Leonardo's jokes written in his notebooks are plays on words, double meanings, or generally dirty jokes. There is a sample of them here.
Eidetic Memory & Perfect Recall - canonically, Leonardo states that "he never forgets a design"; once he has seen something, he says it stays with him forever, which also explains why the imprints of The Apple stayed in his mind for almost twenty years into Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. It may be easier to put it as one or the other, I'm not picky.
Event Planning - Leonardo da Vinci was historically a wedding planner. He was given the working title of Master of Parties and Banquets by Ludovico Sforza of Milan, in between his gig as Advisor on Fortifications.
Gambling - moreso in theory than in practice. Given his perfect recall, he could easily card count if the rules were explained to him, or determine the odds of a particular number coming up on a pair of dice, or the odds of a gladiator battle with the help of Eren and Enjolras... or use some other such mathematical approach to gambling for whatever might be gambled upon. (Important note: he does not have a poker face. He cannot lie or cheat to save his ass.)
Horseback Riding (Joscelin's dungeon) - horses were one of the few ways to get around in Renaissance Italy. Leonardo da Vinci historically loved horses and drew them a bunch. Also he designed ergonomic stables for them because of course he did.
Jury-Rigging & Kit-Bashing - Leonardo da Vinci constructed a glider out of sticks, rope, and cloth. When it didn't go far enough, Leonardo had the Thieves Guild light bonfires all over the city so Ezio could reach the Doge's palace. Furthermore Leonardo was able to redesign the hidden blade to not need a sacrifice of a finger, solely from glancing at a blueprint and a broken hidden blade. If that ain't Jury-Rigging & Kit-Bashing, I don't know what is.
Research - Leonardo went to painstaking attempts to locate the Temple of Pythagoras in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, doing so much as to speak to a secret cult leader Pythagoras expert and persuading his way into the library so he could locate the Temple of Pythagoras. It is said he spent a great deal of time in this library over the course of two years.
Roman Cultural Knowledge - ... well he uh. Made a psychic post about some stuff on the Roman Jaunt. And I explained my sources there. He also lived in Rome in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
Sailing & Swimming - the only other reliable way to get around in Renaissance Italy, other than walking or by horse, was by boat - particularly if you lived in Venice, which Game Leonardo definitely did for eight years. It can be assumed that Leonardo is aware of the basics of watercraft, given that he invented some of them (such as his historically accurate submarine, which I sadly cannot find a good source picture for). While he would not be able to sail a galleon on his own, he'd likely be able to sail a half-dozen-person craft with ease, provided the technology was sufficiently basic. Also swimming for the reason that he made the first flotation device sketch, meaning he very clearly knew how to swim and how to prevent drowning.
Superhuman Computation - In game, Leonardo da Vinci was able to decode several pages from Altair's Codex using different cyphers, substitutions, and languages, all within a very short time span. While it is not purely mathematical, the basics of decoding require extensive mathematical formulae. Historically he was also able to make extremely accurate maps based entirely on the number of steps it took for him to walk a certain length, including the curvature of roads and natural formations.

Reasoning: In addition to her experiences infiltrated in Harrowgate, Madoka is a literal student of the occult in a world where magic, and the dangers of messing with Great Old Ones, is commonly if poorly understood. Not only that, but she's a member of a certain organization dedicated to the defense of the world from those who would use eldritch powers at the expense of humanity.

Skill Equivalencies Requested: Low-Level Computational Sorcery
Reasoning: This is more a clarification of one of her canon abilities. By writing the proper formulas within a magic circle using a pseudo-scientific energy/mass algebraic inequality, Madoka can summon small amounts of energy or matter that she can fling around at Bad People Who Try To Summon Cthulhu.

While this resembles both Liminal Manipulation and Energy Manipulation, in practice she's not capable of doing it at will and on the fly without having a computer - like the specialized occultech applications on her phone - do the heavy mathematical lifting for her. Otherwise this is a long tedious process of drawing a magic circle and doing the calculations painstakingly by hand. I imagine doing it the old fashioned way looks a bit like Alchemy in Fullmetal Alchemist, partially because it is entirely in the spirit of Breakfast Cult to make running gags about looking like you came out of an anime.

So with eldritch knowledge, she'd also have some familiarity with their rituals, how to summon eldtrich beings and such. Is that accurate? Or is she mostly knowledgeable about how to defend against them? (Eldritch defense was a skill invented by a character who wanted to teach people how to defend against eldritch horrors without teaching them how to summon them, essentially. So they cover a lot of the same stuff.)

Also, it sounds like Computational Sorcery is different enough from any liminal skills that she should just be able to keep that as is, and doesn't need an equivalency for it.
