STARCROSSED MUSICIANS - JESSE AND JACOB

(This role is designed for a pair of friends, but can be played as a romantic arc if the players would like.)

You both need a little time away from the pressures of your usual bands, sometimes, and so it is that you bumped into each other at an open mic night a few months back - both of you out of your more easily recognisable stage makeup, so by the time you realised you were members of rival bands, you’d already started toward a fast friendship. You see no reason to give that up just because of the tensions between your respective bands, so you’ve been calling each other in your off time and hanging out whenever you can both finagle it.

Lately that’s turned into joint jamming sessions, even though you’d first wanted to keep the music out of it… and that’s leading to the realisation that you just plain work better together than either of you does with your current bands. Maybe it’s time to ditch those guys and strike out on your own.

(Each of you knows about your own front man’s fancy earring, but not that the other band leader has one as well.)

Plot Skill: Work In Concert - If the two of you team up on a project of any sort, it goes far more smoothly than either of you tackling it alone would.

So I am assuming that means both bands are local to the area?

Not necessarily? Just that they both come from the same place, whether that's here or Los Angeles or SF or wherever. You four can wrangle it out!

Any plans for next week?

It depends on what the events of the day will be? I am not sure what the timing on everything is - are the headliners only playing on the last day of the festival?

Jesse will definitely want another meeting with Jacob, and he may also feel out some new stuff with Ken, but possibly at a bad time, so he feels rebuffed. I am also considering seeing if he and Jacob can play a solo or acoustic gig at a backwater bar where they might not be recognized, but that depends on the timing of the headliner concerts.

They should both be playing twice. We'll have the schedule as part of the plotting post. Shooting Stars plays last on the first night and second on the last night, both on the big stage. (Meanwhile, Audio Outcast is last on both the second and last night.)

If they sneak out after their acts or do it before them, it ought to be fine.

Do you have any preference for before or after the Shooting Stars do their thing for Jesse and Jacob to do their sneak performance? Mostly it matters for our backstage section of the mingle if we write Jesse being slightly late to returning from their gig or him cutting out as soon as the last Shooting Stars song is over.

It depends on what time the Shooting Stars play. If they're going to be done after midnight, probably they would do it before, but if they would be finished up by nine or ten, then after.

Mostly drama with Ken, possibly an argument, I am not sure how that will go yet. Also another meeting with Jacob, possibly, as they try and figure out what they are going to do.

Any plans for the FOURTH OF JULY day/week?

First part of the day, Jesse will probably still be looking for Ken, fussing at people, possibly yelling at the cops for their stupid rules about how long before someone is considered a missing person. Then, you know, concert and announcement.

Okay, so, general plotting info:

Jesus "Jesse" Marquez was friends with Kinji since they were kids, so it was not surprising they started a band together in high school, that would eventually become the Shooting Stars. Jacob was a part of the band, too, in the very early years before the earrings, but he never got along well with Kinji. He and Jesse not only played together, but also had a clandestine romantic relationship. They were both pretty hot tempered, and so a messy break-up and parting of ways was inevitable, especially because Jesse refused to ever naysay Kinji out of loyalty. Jacob left the band to be on his own for awhile, and eventually joined Phillip's band for his own reasons.

When he and Jesse ran into each other recently, Jesse was happy to see an old friend, and someone he could complain to about the direction the band was taking. He told Jacob that Kinji was now band manager, and they have a new front man who's taking things in a direction he's not sure he likes. A little harmless bitching has led to a couple of jam sessions, and now Jesse's not so sure about his place in the band - he loves his best friend, but he's always wanted to go in a grittier, less flashy direction, and Jacob is making him question his choices.

I like it! :D It'd definitely be a super interesting thing if it came up in-Jaunt. I reckon Kinji would probably be willing to compromise, but at the same time a different direction would be a Big Thing for the band, and he has to look at things from that managerly perspective too.

Jacob Frye is That Token English Guy in Phillip's band. A stormy breakup with Jesse is what drove him to leave the Shooting Stars (actually packing up and leaving on a bus that day) and he eventually wound up in Phillip's band before the earrings were brought into play. He knew Phillip was talented, if a bit abrasive, and he just needed somewhere to be other than the Shooting Stars. He's tried to be a bit of a big brother/occasional kick up the ass for Phillip's behavior, but huh, strangely he's not as likely to get worked up by the guy any more, so strange...

Now that a few years have passed and he's had the time to cool off (and grow up a little), he's recently reconnected with Jesse and... well, it's hard not to notice how well they gel together, and that brings up memories of how well they played together. Who knows, maybe he's thinking it's time for another change...

Jacob and Jesse will be performing at a local bar to do a standalone side-gig with just the two of them, very hush-hush, not in costume or anything that would otherwise identify them as being part of their bands. Just to see if they still gel together well in performing.
