Unquiet Dead Plot Role Info

If you are not a plot infiltrator or someone with IC reasons to share knowledge available to plot infiltrators, please do not read the comments of this post.

If you ARE a plot infiltrator, please comment under your toplevel to let us know you've read it; please also pop over here to announce your plotroleishness to the game at large. We prefer that you do any confidential plotting with other plot-important folks in the comments here, rather than on plurk, and please comment no later than August 5th, 15th, 25th & September 4th with a brief (as brief as 1 sentence; as long as you like) summary of your activity during the week & plans for next week. These comments will help the mods shape mingles and plot events to keep the story dynamic and player actions important to the outcome. Likewise, comment at any time with any questions you may have, and a mod will get back to you within 36 hours at the outside.

A random question: We're thinking of making Hiroshi Ambrose's descendant. Is the appearance of the ghosts a new thing, or could part of the reason behind Hiroshi's belief stem from having a ghost that just won't flipping leave and having to keep that a secret?

Ghosts before this were still a thing, but much harder to spot or hear and much less frequent in appearance. So, it's fine if Hiroshi has had past ghost encounters, as long as they were uncommon and unclear. It's certainly fine if he correctly believes they were ghost encounters.

Another random question: was there a noticeable influx of "new people" in the first jaunt that may make it so that another influx might be something Hiroshi could pin down as a sign that something really bad is on the horizon? Especially if the town is stagnant.

There was, but just as this influx is allegedly about the funeral, the last one was allegedly about the Diamond Jubilee - and Harrogate is a tourism destination, so influxes of people happen regularly.

Another question: Does the Inn he runs have a specific name?

[personal profile] powersthatare 2017-08-11 05:36 am (UTC)(link)

Is it the same inn Ambrose ran?

Thistle House!

As a note, he's been around for so long that there's quite a lot of them, but because he wasn't ever a resident of Harrogate (he was part of the traveling theater troupe in the previous Harrogate jaunt) there's no actual record of his existence. So the stories probably get attributed to a variety of other spirits. Sometimes he intentionally sets up hauntings in order to confuse the issue a bit more.

With that in mind! Here are some stories/ideas related to that~

There's there's this one room in the inn where, on full moon nights, the picture on the wall is knocked askew. It doesn't happen every month but it's been documented multiple times over at least two decades, possibly more. But maybe the floor is just settling strangely in that corner of the building. It's said to be the ghost of an artist who loved that room but hated the painting. Are there records of such a person...? Maybe it's just the building settling.

There's this story about a woman in the old Monrey family. They say her first husband raised his hand to her only once -- because after the first time, he was found dead. He was lying at the bottom of the stairs, neck broken, face contorted with horror. But there was no one else in the house... The exact historical timing of this story tends to change.

There are rumors in the seedier side of Harrogate that, sometimes, for no known reason, when attempting to to burgle a house, the thief will be overcome with a feeling of inexplicable terror. Those who do not heed this warning and flee will meet with terrible accidents within the week. This is quite an old story and is often embellished with personal details ("My cousin's friend once told me..."); there are multiple versions floating around. Said to be the ghost of a policeman who died on a night patrol and never stopped.

There is a certain alleyway where, if you visit at the right time, with the right offering, you may be visited by a ghost. The exact alleyway, time, and offering differ between tellings, but the offering always includes some variety of coinage among other esoteric items (a raven's feather, three red beads, whatever). You know this has worked if you feel a sudden chill and the items begin to move in odd patterns. Considered to be good luck if it works. No one's yet managed to trace this to a potential ghost but there's many theories around~

I hope that helps as a starting place! Phillip's also infiltrating as an eldritch horror that occasionally noms people so you might want to ask their player for spooky story ideas too.
