You were the Champion of Storms - still are, most days - because you found hope in disaster. The colony you live in (a colony world if you’re of a starfaring species; a new frontier on an empty continent otherwise) is in the middle of volatile ecological disaster and drought. While the storms are fearsome, they bring water, and plant life, and hope. You dream of ecological solutions to your people’s problems - and then, there was a storm in Questing Country.

That first storm was an aurora full of lightning raging above a cold front, and while other Champions scattered, you ran laughing into the wind. From your Oracle-senpai, you’d learned how to use your Dreamcatcher to Merge, and you wanted to understand what this storm was - of it might be an answer to your dreams. Your last memory is being suspended in a web of turquoise lightning coursing through the Dreamcatcher, while your Spirit Companion tried to pry the Dreamcatcher from your hands.

When you woke, your companion and dreamcatcher were one: a little blue star whose light showed the energy flowing behind all the matter in Questing Country. When you become the Harbinger, you still feel you may understand the storm and whether it’s the answer you want - but you no longer understand yourself, and you can’t grasp or explain that sense of understanding.

Other Harbingers are terrified of their transformation, desperate to turn back, to make it stop. It’s true that you’re afraid, that you can feel your Champion-ness slipping as you learn how little of your dreams you can really control. But you want that answer, and you’re ready to dive deeper on this strange, alien journey you’re on - to really see how deep the rabbit-hole goes, and what’s on the other side.

Thread expectation: two threads per mingle. A minimum of one Harbinger thread every other mingle.

Plot Skill: Submerge. Once every two weeks in Jaunt, or once a Jaunt afterward, upon encountering any strange phenomenon you do not understand - matter, energy, or information - you may dive into it, dissolving the boundary between the self and the phenomenon, in hopes of emerging with a greater understanding of it. You will always gain information this way, but may be (usually temporarily) mentally altered in the process of becoming what you understand.

Question: will I be able to transition him to Oracle of Paths or is this intended to go Full Harbringer? I'm cool either way!

During the Jaunt he's likelier to go Full Harbinger, but Malik, post-infiltration, can take the Archetype Magic that suits him best with any of the HoS's magic as skill proof.

Anything to report from week 1/plans for week 2?

Week 1: learned about Travelers, theoretically teaming up with Kanji. Asking about fuel in the waking world for Allura in exchange for advice with soil stuff.

Week 2 Plans: Harbringer Times!! Running headfirst in to whatever shenanigans come afoot

Anything to report from week 2/plans for week 3?

Went Harbringer on a part of the forest, putting it in to Winter Mode!

As far as plans go.... recovering from (getting questioned about?) being a Harbringer, and I'm going to send him to use his plot skill at something.

Because that can only go well.

Sayf went to Liminal Space and Submerged it! He met the Arcana in charge of the jaunt. ~~And only mildly sassed them~~.

This is a Harbringer week, and I think it will be right out the gate.

Would having a hurricane with they eye centered on the starting meadow (Where he'd be) be legit or Too Much? He's likely trying to be attempting to get the invasive species (Travelers) out of here?

Otherwise I'll happily take a suggestion on Harbringer Shenanigans!

Week 4 had "what happens when you use Wake on a Harbinger?" and I will report back with plans for week 5 after I find out what happens with that!

WEEK 5 PLANS!!

Be late with burn scars to QC, and probably want to go thank his Harbingbuddy. Somehow. Possibly make a somewhat unwise decision involving willingly inviting this shit in to his head.

Look, The Harbinger just saved his home he's going to repay this whatever it is however he can. This cannot end badly.

He's probably going to use Submerge on something in an attempt to thank whatever force helped his home. Nobody said he made good choices

I also think his Champion-ness will have slipped a fair bit? The question is what's coming in to replace it! (Can he start referring to himself as Harbinger yet? XD)

One last check-in for the road: What are your character's plans to resolve what they see as the biggest issue of their era?

I'm planning on having Sayf offer to stay in QC with the Starmovers and act as an ambassador for them with the other dreamer in the current thread!

Is it cool to assume that it's a joint attempt between a few of the starfaring species? Reasons why a gorgon would give a damn about storms/droughts/etc.

yes!

When in Harbringer Mode, can conversations take place? If so, how disjointed/vague would they be?

Also, what would be the "goal" of the Harbringer beyond probably making storms

Harbingers in Harbinger Mode can speak, but cannot perceive others clearly, so they would be one way conversations.

A Harbinger might be more likely to speak to a landmark or environmental phenomenon.

A Harbinger who creates a storm might wish to, say, harvest the glass from its lightning strikes; or to water the local plant life, or to drive out invasive species - their goals are long-term, focused on significant changes to environmental and ecological conditions.

Gotcha! Because yeah, this is a Harbringer Week and I figure people are going to try to do something with that

I may have to use "investigators are invasive species" logic at some point later down the road.

What would someone have to do to get the attention of a Harbringer? Because I'm sure folks will eventually try something.

Other than self-defense if attacked anyway, because that seems the most obvious.
