I'm not quite sure I follow, sorry. What exactly is the enchantment that he's doing with his penmanship?

We can see how things are going and figure out where to go from there, yeah. For now, I think the main thing we'll need to know is what kind of stuff he has been sending out, so we know what media reports to note in the mingles. Would there be anything that he'd have been sending out before the start of the jaunt? (Our current plan was to have the mingle mention media talking about how it's the two year anniversary of Yakkimort's failed plot. So his letters could be mixed in with that, or maybe that's just the lead in to the campaign starting for real in the next mingle?)

As Elle explained it to me IRL, I think he's just writing on top of the real letter (one of the Concerned Citizens ones) in some way, to enchant the page and make it look like a fake letter (e.g. homework notes)

Okay, so the intent is more so that he can hide what he's doing? That would be doable.

Although...hmm. Actually on second thought, that might be something closer to the sort of thing performance magic does. Perpetual magic effects tend to come into effect when the work is completed, not while it's still in progress.

Okay, so! The way I'm envisioning it is;

Step 1 - writes a rough draft of his letter to the paper. This rough draft is kept under enchantment, which is an enchantment that forms due to the creativity in the handwriting he's making up/practising. The enchantment creates an illusion that the rough draft is actually like, an essay draft. The rough draft is to figure out wording and tone, as well as to create the handwriting that he'll use on the one he sends to the papers. The handwriting type (the art) is a visible part of the enchantment; that is to say, his dozens of 'essay drafts' will still all have different penmanship. It's the words that are changed, not the handwriting style. If the penmanship is disturbed (a spilled liquid, a torn edge, whatever damages ink on paper), the art is damaged and the magic breaks.

Step 2 - with the rough draft written and sentences and chosen handwriting determined, the copy that goes to the papers is written without any magic. This copy is sent off after a few dozen careful re-reads, and is probably carried on his person.

Does that make sense?

I'm not sure I do follow, sorry! Perhaps things are getting a bit over complicated here? Like, he could just have a completed artwork of calligraphy at the bottom of his stack of papers, which just casts an illusion over whatever happens to be above it. Then he can just do whatever he wants on top, drafts or not, until such time as they're not on the same stack anymore and then the illusion no longer covers them. Does that sound like something that would work for what you're after?

You know that makes a lot more sense

Let's roll with that!
