Elsewhere U Plot Role Info

If you are not a plot infiltrator or someone with IC reasons to share knowledge available to plot infiltrators, please do not read the comments of this post.

If you ARE a plot infiltrator, please comment under your toplevel to let us know you've read it; please also pop over here to announce your plotroleishness to the game at large. We prefer that you do any confidential plotting with other plot-important folks in the comments here, rather than on plurk, and please comment no later than September 17, 25, October 3, 11, 19 & 27 with a brief (as brief as 1 sentence; as long as you like) summary of your activity during the week & plans for next week. These comments will help the mods shape mingles and plot events to keep the story dynamic and player actions important to the outcome. Likewise, comment at any time with any questions you may have, and a mod will get back to you within 36 hours at the outside.

Apologies for wrong journal.

Ok, so I'm getting a bit of an 'Unseen University' vibe from this library. Rows and rows of vast shelves of books that might literally go on forever. Am I off base on that? Also, an idea I had was that Helena would absolutely ban any kind of magic from the library. No contracts, no spells, nothing. She's in many ways the queen of this strange library-land, and if you don't follow the (very few, to be honest) rules, your ass is never coming in again.

Also, what is meant by 'they're not really human anymore'? Does that mean they've picked up powers of various sorts? I'm kinda seeing Helena as a very intimidating figure of indeterminate age (rumors say she's utterly ancient, but no one knows exactly.) that even the fae aren't really sure they want to cross.

... does that fit, or am I missing something?

speaking of, i really should be responding with this one as i said i would

Fun fact, the author definitely loves Pratchett's UU.

No one, not even Fae, know the true depths of the Library, so you're right on the money with that. It also changes or warps spacetime often enough that inexperienced people keep getting lost and need to be retrieved.

I'm not sure about a full magic ban, especially since Others might have passive abilities they can't turn off, and there are definitely magic and magical books in it. But the Library is definitely enforced as a "safe space" for all--as safe as the warped Library can be, anyway. The librarians in general will want to keep to that spirit of the law.

You're also right on the money on Helena being that formiddable!

Excellent, so that makes it easier for me to get a handle on.

Ok, so a mental tweak: No active magic (as in something that's consciously cast/created) around the books, because any active magic could make the books and their internal magic go haywire. If people want to practice, leave the library or use a spell-proof study room.

Cool. Can I say she's picked up various powers along the way? Mostly finding/cleaning/arrangement, but some defense as well.

Anything more powerful than just a side effect of Elsewhere magic was probably gotten in a Deal, from a magical book, hereditary, or something, so you've got great fodder for backstory if you need it.

Anything to report for week one?

Week 2: It is always wise to have a library prompt, but this week especially, just so players know where to find you and what you're about, and they take advantage of this mingle's library prompt. Include this information in your top level: The Library is possibly the best place to get knowledge without having to Deal.

Nothing really to report. Mary is fiercely protecting the safety of her library, and being dubious at some of the newcomers who are trying to get in without the proper clearance.

Otherwise, this coming week, she's going to give her safety course, and help anyone who comes in looking for information.

She's fiercely determined that one should not have to give anything up for information. (It's part of protecting her domain and the people who pass through it.)

week 2/week 3

Anything to report from week 2?

week 3: When Fennel tells the Involved what is attacking the rescuers, Anna Monday being a magical ghost rather than a Fae seems like a good theory to you, too. You have many books on ghosts you can lend out to him and anyone else looking to help.

Easteros will send a special agent (Safe Name: Agent Web) to briefly check in with their secret bodyguard, Argentum, and confirm Alayne's well-being at the college. He strolls around campus, poking his Uninvolved nose everywhere. His presence is a nightmare for Involved staff and students alike, exactly the kind of attention Fae and EU don't want.

Offer the deeper bowels of the Library as temporary storage for obviously Weird items until he leaves, hopefully soon. (They must ensure they are checked in and cataloged properly. The Library will not be held responsible for items lost in spacetime.)

Anything to report from week 4?

Final Mingle: The Library, like many of the school's common areas, will be decorated for the Autumnal Equinox Festival. No special Role instructions, but if you would like to do something other than watch students goof off lol: In the wake of a student (Alayne) returning to weeks' worth of missing homework, Mary could, at her discretion, offer the deep Library's malleable time properties to any Returned students like Alayne looking to catch up.

Week 5
