How does she communicate information to the Deepsinger, and how does that get back to the Empress? And how does the Deepsinger eat, for that matter?

She will swim out far enough to sing to it unheard, and it will sing back.

It is hunting the waters, which will therefore probably be very low on porpoises and dolphins.

How often does she need to do this? Should I assume she already has this week, or find a point to have her do it? And is it passing information back, or just acknowledging that she sent it?

She can have done so already; there's no set schedule but at least once a week when possible (only a few hours' swim will get her out of range of the others), and she knows that it is capable of passing information to the Empress but is probably not usually doing so - it is acting as her mission control/senior partner, and is trusted by the Empress to act according to her will.

Also, is she affected by the Deepsinger's Song the way the other Sirens are? And would she be affected in the same way when it's communicating with her? I'm assuming not for the latter, because she'd be temporarily helpless and easy to sneak up on and that's not the sort of thing people like to see in their minions, but just to make sure.

By its nightly Song, she's affected but not incapacitated - heavily distracted only. It can communicate without doing that, however, and does so when she contacts it.
