Re: XII. The Hanged Man

Luke enters the room with the impression that he's been gone a very long time and with only the blurriest of memories to fill in the blanks--he has the vague notion that at one point he'd been on a space station--at another point he'd been investigating a murder?--but where was the connection?

Perhaps it doesn't matter. He's fairly sure where he is now. Liminal space--some form of it.

He turns the chair over first, then uses the coaster to flip the glass of fizzy soda pop. Setting that aside momentarily, although keeping it in sight, he moves to flip the table.

The table is easily flipped over, though it is a sturdy metal table.

Luke may get the strange feeling that he is being watched. But nothing appears just yet.

He does. He'll just pick up the soda pop again, set it on the table, sit down in the chair and pick up the glass of soda again.

He drinks.

It is quite a refreshing cola-like liquid, though there is little sustenance to it. Someone never bothered to pay attention in Arcana Cooking Class.

There is suddenly a jangle of metal above Luke's head, and what appears to be a legless droid is dangling from the chain, his broken leg joint caught in the link at the very end. A tangle of wires thread through other links in the chain to keep him secured there. It can barely touch the rim of the glass from that height, but if Luke stands they would be face to face.

It gives a small wave in greeting.

HI NOVA VENEZIA FLASHBACK

A vision of a similar-looking droid, devoid of all context, passes over Luke and he shivers. He drains the glass of cola, sets it aside, and then stands.

"Hello?" he says, standing up. "I'm Luke. Who are you?"

The glass remains empty for about five seconds, and then slowly begins to refill itself with the same bubbly liquid.

The droid cocks its head to the left (right?) at the question, before answering, "Pendu. And you are... Skystrider." It shrugs. "Or something like that."

"Skywalker, actually," Luke says, bemused.

"Skywaker, sure," it answers with a shrug.

"Right," Luke says. "Are you a Traveler?"

He assumes the droid must be. It isn't as if they've ever even seen a Champ.

It shakes its head.

"..." Luke squints as he looks closer at the droid. "You're not a World Series Champion, are you?"

It's never happened before, that any of the Travelers have met one, but even so...

It shrugs. "You're only a Champion if you win, I guess, so... no?"
