girlexmachina: (awe)

Aloy looks at the chair, and she looks at the wine. She touches neither, remaining standing. This is significantly outside of all her previous experience, and it's hard to know what she's supposed to do.

After a moment, she goes to pull the rainbow veil aside, to see if it's hiding something. Perhaps, a way out?

A low, throaty feminine laugh echoes through the room. Behind the veil... there is candle-light, but there are no candles. Instead, there is a full-length mirror, its glass fogged over, and the flickering light seems to come from with it.

This is... this is not a normal mirror. It's the sort of thing she might expect in a particularly well-preserved ruin of the Metal World. Aloy frowns at it a moment, then turns her Focus on, trying to see if its interface can give her any sort of information on this very unusual mirror, or if there's anything it can connect to.

Probing the space around her, her Focus will reveal no exits from the space, save for the mirror itself - despite the fog, there is no 'surface' there at all - but also, nothing beyond that point that can be scanned. It may well be an opening onto nothingness.

... okay, then. Aloy hesitates for a moment, then reaches out to touch the fog, or the lack of the surface, or whatever it is. She pauses, frowning, when she sees the mark on the back of her right hand, a crescent moon around a 2, but honestly that's one of the less weird things going on. One thing at a time. This is the only thing that looks like an exit, so this is what she's going to try to investigate.

Touching the fog, her fingers sink slowly into it - it feels somewhere between cotton candy and cheesecloth, but it tingles, and that laugh sounds again, coming from all around her.

The tingling might not be a good thing. She pulls back a moment, then turns to look at the rest of the room.

"Whoever's there," she says, her voice raised to just below what could be called a shout, "come out, now."

[personal profile] powersthatare 2017-04-03 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
A form steps out of the mirror, emerging slowly, hands raised. Familiar hands, followed by familiar arms, followed by the same face Aloy is used to seeing in the mirror.

"As you like," her image says, in a voice which is distinctly not her own.

Aloy steps back in surprise, despite herself. It's not her, it's not Elisabet Sobeck, this is someone else wearing her face, so who is this?

"Who are you?" It's voiced as a challenge, nothing less. "What is this place?"

omg I don't know how I lost this thread; I am so sorry

"I'm every question you ever had about your reflection," the figure answers, smiling a gentle, enigmatic smile. "And despite appearances, this is not a place."

"That's not an answer."

Riddles. Riddles. She can't imagine very many things more aggravating just at this particular moment.

"If it's not a place, then what is it?"

[personal profile] powersthatare 2017-06-09 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"A state of mind."

Aloy's eyes narrow. "All right," she says, though her tone implies that nothing about this is all right at all. "And how am I in this state of mind? More importantly, why am I here?"
