Okay fuck, she might have to give in that time, that blood smells delicious.
"I'm glad you had time to see us."
She's... uh. Okay, going to sit down by the drink that's obviously meant for her and only not reaching out for it immediately because that would just be rude.
"As to why I asked to see you," trying to make herself sound as polite as she can, "we were wondering about this Liminal. Both yours and the other contestant's imaginary seems to be featured strongly.
"I do have quite a bit of time until the next round," he agrees, pleasantly. "But I'm afraid that Fortune's rules prohibit me from discussing events within the Jaunt itself which led to victory or defeat. I can tell you that my victory condition was met, and SAGE's victory condition was met. Won't you please sit, miss Maria?" He motions to the empty chair with his bony hand, glancing at Maria.
"The rules Fortune laid out at the start of this round of Synodiporia," he answers succinctly, before taking another sip of his drink. "I can explain a few of them outright, as there are no confidential stipulations on those. And there are a few more that I can explain because the majority of the Travelers understand them and could tell you much the same. But there are many that I cannot discuss."
His bony fingers drum on the table a few times - clikclikclik, clikclikclik - before he tries to simplify his response. "I suppose you could think of it as... a curse, of sorts. Using the crude game metaphor for Synodiporia, I am bound by Fortune's Law not to discuss the extent of the game as long as it is still her round of play."
Malin throws a brief glance towards Maria and then speaks up, thinking that she is probably speaking for both of them here:"Then please tell us the parts that you can discuss, for one reason or the other."
It's better than nothing, and she doesn't trust him, but getting those rules from him will probably mean that they got them on better authority and with less element of doubt than if they got them from other travellers. And maybe something new will slip in.
"Very well. I suppose I'll start with the ones the Travelers have solidified. Firstly, at least one Arcanum is chosen as a host for each Jaunt, and win conditions for each host are agreed upon among all hosts. If a condition is met, the successive Liminal Space will be crafted by the winner. If no conditions are met, Liminal Space is to be a punishment." He frowns visibly at that, but continues nonetheless. "This round of Synodiporia has three phases. We are currently in phase three, which is the tournament bracket as discussed previously. The second was the deciding round, seeing who would advance to the third round. The winner of the third round will gain the World."
He pauses again to let those set of rules sink in. "Now, as to the rules with no confidential stipulations. If you die in a Jaunt, you return to Liminal Space after some time, depending on how difficult of a death it was and how often you have died. If you die in Liminal Space, I will personally see to your full recovery. However, the so called 'Dead' Arcana are not under my jurisdiction, as 'Death' would imply. They are completely and absolutely gone. Lastly, we gain players in this round by Fortune's design, and they, the Travelers, are sorted and distributed to our teams according to our virtues... our idioms, if you will. I have already gone into some detail of why you were among my Chosen, miss Malin. I am sure ROSE could have told you something similar, miss Maria. Or is it Missus yet?"
Death will personally see to nobody dying. That's interesting. It also means that, at least if she interprets this right, the whole "no death" clause hinges on Death sticking by his opinion that nobody should die.
And "the so called 'Dead' Arcana". So not dead, just gone, completely and absolutely ...by what standards? For this round? Out of reach of the Arcana?
How does an Arcanum met "so-called death"?
But for now, she's not asking any of those questions, in part because Death has addressed Maria directly.

What happened with the outcome of this jaunt?"

hi I lost the notif >.<
But appearances are deceiving, and she knows that he is much more.
"Of course," she says, doing just that. "I'd like you to tell us why you can't discuss more, then. What rules constrain you?"

And she'll pick up the drink clearly meant for her, though she doesn't drink from it yet.
