There's a thoughtful hum. Since it seems pointless to ask anything about that subject anymore, he might as well change the subject a bit. "Hey, speaking of marks and stuff. When your comrades passed away, had they marked someone before that? What happens to someone whose patron passes away?"

"It could have been much worse, believe it or not," Mortimer snorts, agreeing with the sarcastic sentiment.
That question makes Death pause for a long, long moment. "I hadn't put much thought into it, though I suppose their mark would disappear as well. I cannot be sure there, as I intend to keep everyone alive, Traveler and Arcanum both. But no, none of the four had marked anyone before they passed on... were no more... ceased to be... expired, and so on." He smiles a bit at his joke, if only because this subject would be particularly painful otherwise. "We were still only in Phase One, then."
my first thought was him saying "always look on the bright side of life" but that works even better
"I'll take your word for it." There's a sense of trust Yosuke feels towards his patron. He hasn't had a reason to doubt him.
Sadly, Yosuke doesn't know what the reference is to, even if he does raise his eyebrows a bit at the multiple ways to say one thing. Then he nods though, satisfied with the answer he got in general.
"I can definitely be behind you in keeping everyone alive. I want all of us to be able to live our lives to the fullest and survive whatever is thrown at us", Yosuke says with a smile. "I may have lost my main ability to help, but I'm not giving up."
"We all travel on our individual journeys. But very few Travelers' journeys end within Liminal Space. I intend to keep it that way."
Death cocks his head quizically, then. "You have lost an ability. That is all it is, in the end. You can replace it with another. Or you can adapt to fight without it. Either way, it is not what you can do that is the help, but what you are."
"What I am", Yosuke repeats, looking down. In a way, Persona was a showcase of what he was. That's how it felt, in the end. That's why he felt so empty from time to time. "I'm trying my best, at least."
Death looks at him hard for a moment, then answers, "Look, while your talents may have displayed your inner self in a way that was both public and useful, you still have what you are. You simply cannot see it so easily."
Yosuke looks at Death for a longer while before smiling a bit. It's nice to know that his patron wants to help... and he does have a good point. "Thanks. I'll try to remember that."
Speaking of abilities, Yosuke changes the subject once more. "Hey, I was wondering... is it possible to change where my mark is? My overlay in Greece likely thinks he has some sort of heart issues when you contacted me through the mark..."
"I'm afraid not," Death answers, solemnly. "It will have to stay there at least until the end of this round of Synodiporia. I apologize for the inconvenience."
