THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH - THE DOCTOR

You’re a xenoanthropologist--or at least you were. Right now you’re nothing more than a fugitive from the humans that kept you confined for years inside the place they call Area 54. You don’t know how they figured out what you were, but some years ago you were captured and arrested and transported to the underground facility--and what’s worse, all your very important notes and tools were taken from you.

You have your notes back. You don’t have anything else. Not your interstellar tightbeam communicator and certainly not the stargem earrings that are your two main tools for blending in with the humans. (The right constructed an illusionary appearance for you. The left made sure that the humans you were studying never noticed if your mannerisms were wrong.) You’ve been able to reconstruct the right earring in a limited fashion, enough so that you can sort of fake the human thing again, but It can’t completely cover up that there’s something about your looks that is… different. And there’s nothing to cover-up when you act in ways that aren’t human either now.

You’ve managed to get a fake ID (the human you paid for it gave you the alias of ‘Ziggy Stardust’ for some reason that they found completely hilarious) and procure some temporary employment while you try to figure out where to do next. Luckily, your species is fairly strong, so being a roadie is easy. With the right equipment, you could probably rebuild something enough like your tightbeam communicator to contact your advisors and arrange for pick-up and possibly the notes you have would be sufficient enough to satisfy them--but if they aren’t, then it’s all too likely that you’ll lose your grant money and your academic career will suffer a grave setback. Is it really enough to risk it?

But is finishing your studies worth always having to worry about the humans in the black suits capturing you again? Not to mention that some of these disturbances are starting to spook you.

Plot Skill: Design-Your-Own-Alien Form - Allows you (the player) to design “Ziggy’s” alien form and abilities and take it as a skill, with the caveat that their appearance has to hit the sweet spot of being alien enough that it has to be disguised all the time, but not so alien that a localized illusion can’t hide it. (Think bipedal and single headed.) If you need a reference for the kind of power levels we’re looking at, the species list from the walkabout is a good example.

So, I'm guessing part of what Ziggy wants to do is reclaim all of his stolen Tech... since it will all be in the same place at the same time? Or is that sort of up to me as a player?

[personal profile] powersthatbii 2017-06-05 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's sort of up to you as a player how far you want him to go with it, but that is definitely something that could motivate him, once he realizes that HEY WAIT THAT'S MY THING. AND THAT'S MY THING. AND YOU HAVE MY THING TOO. Although, like, part of the challenge is doing it without getting caught out as an alien again.

(Basically, we strive to give you guys some leeway by giving you the situation as set up and let you run with it, rather than tell you what to do for each mingle like we used to in ye olden days of Syn.)

Any plans for next week?

A bit more information about Area 54 so I can figure out Ziggy's past would be helpful, so I know how much to push/pull back with him in different areas.

Obviously, the festival and playing there, but how much he might reveal to others, well depends on his past, so I'm kind of stuck there right now.

Area 54 is one of 55 designated Areas that were established in 1969, after the Apollo mission found proof of a deserted alien base on the moon. (It probably wasn't a Time Lord base, but the Doctor might have been to it at some point.) Subsequent moon missions were tasked in bringing home what tech the astronauts could--the men (and women) from R&D analyzed it and used it to outfit the Area agents.

Each state has an Area. California, Alaska, Florida, New York, and Texas all have two. The Areas are underground facilities, specially reinforced against earthquakes, and they employ no more than 50 people at any given time. They're all located underneath miltary bases.

They each have about five containment cells for suspicious entities, but during the Doctor's tenure he was the only one in the block. He probably escaped at some time during the last year. He'd have been taken in probably three or so years ago? Something like that.

They look... well, they look a lot like secret hidden bunkers do in video games. He'd have had the opportunity to raid the confiscated items on his way out, but not R&D. (Which is a pity, since R&D had his communicator at the time of his break out.)

He wouldn't have met everyone employed in the facility. Only about a dozen or so had the clearance to talk with him one on one. Agent D'Eath was almost certainly one of them. The rest you might want to work out with the players playing the members of Area 54.

Their technology, which R&D adapted from the stuff scavenged from the moon, is much better than normal human stuff right now, but not nearly as good as the stuff from home. (Something that R&D had been playing with was what penetrated his earlier disguise btw, which lead to him getting spotted. Another thing R&D was playing with was what knocked him out long enough to get captured in the first place.)

You might want to talk to Yubsie to iron out any details of Agent D'Eath's interactions with him during the roughly two years he was incarcerated.

Now that I know that Ziggy's band is playing, it will be all about prep work, performing, and avoiding the wrong sort of attention.

Evade capture. Maybe try to get Melissa's TARDIS working. (Or at the very least us it to send out a distress signal.)

Okay, I was mostly debating how far to drive the overlay from how the Doctor normally is.

Here's what I've come up with so far:
He'll still be a Time Lord (Because let's be honest, even when he was 'human' he was clearly still the Doctor and still a bit Time Lordy in canon and I want to respect that.)

In THIS universe, the only difference biologically is Time Lords have VERY PURPLE skin. Dark purple/royal purple. You couldn't possibly confuse it for any other colour. Which is why he needs his disguise device. Because purple skin is much harder to hide than two hearts.

I'm still working on the historical differences between the universes, so I don't want to get too detailed where that is concerned right now, since I still have a few days to formulate that.

Sounds great, actually! Honestly, if our Man Who Fell To Earth player had trouble figuring out what "Ziggy's" true appearance was, we'd have just suggested something like the blue guys in Interstellia 5555. And yeah, don't worry too much about the historical differences yet! We don't start until next Friday anyway.

One thing is that he won't have his TARDIS analogue on earth with him, because otherwise he wouldn't be trapped. (One of his friends/colleagues is probably taking care of it during the course of his study of earth? If the need for them comes up, we can NPC them if you don't want to.)

I was thinking his tutor 'dropped him off' for 'extra research opportunities' which gives him a reason to not have a TARDIS and to force himself to 'blend in'/learn the lay of the land. I don't know if it will be that specifically, but something along those lines.
